Was rummaging a bin of "vintage" postcards and tripped over this pic of Convair's long lost competitor to the 707, the Convair 990 Coronado. Engine pylon design seems to be a Convair thing, drawn from work on the B-58.

Was flipping through the local morning paper, which tells me there is no increase in shoplifting, the economy is great, and, this is a new one, that all the Silicon Valley assholes are Republicans. The re-elect Biden message has devolved into the prog-tards just repeating "Who you gonna believe, me or your lying eyes?"

@Nazareno This comes up every year or two. The "war crime" white phosphorous is exploding WP: a shell full of WP blows up, big chunks of burning phosphorous go all over, and it's a horror show when it hits people. Relatively recently the US introduced smoke shells with a new system that ejects white phosphorus impregnated 3/4-inch felt wedges in flight (that's what you see in your picture). This produces a better smoke screen without the terrible effects on people, i.e., not a war crime.

@Nazareno It's also worth noting that the alternative to WP, HC (hexachloroethane) smoke is not only less effective for screening, but is also still incendiary (though not as much as WP), and dangerous, both in the short term (exposure of unprotected soldiers to high concentrations of HC smoke for even a few minutes has resulted in injuries and fatalities) and the long term (it's a carcinogen). There is no risk free alternative to WP; military smoke is just nasty stuff.

@HiroProtagonist They can't show what a real civil war would look like: not dramatic enough and doesn't support the narrative well enough. A new civil war will not be like the last American one, it will be like Syria, or Kosovo, or Russia at the end of the Tsarist period: militias struggling for control of specific regions, cities, towns, or even city blocks. The one unique element may be the cities vs. countryside aspect; not sure there's a precedent for that.

@HiroProtagonist I noticed the glasses too . . . was wondering if there was some sort of "rose colored glasses" snark going on or if it was just to make the guy's affiliation murky, so that our "journalist hero" would have to guess how to answer him (suspense!).

Q: Does progressives marching and calling for the destruction of Israel constitute harassment of jews?A: Depends on context.Q: What if it's not progressives, what if it's a bunch of randos with Tiki torches who are associated with the right?A: That is past harassment: it is a threat to democracy and a stain on America's soul and we must fight it with every fiber of our being because all of those people are an evil cancer.

National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, in Israel, was pushing to move to war into more intelligence based raids and precise targeting of Hamasleadership . . . because that's the US strategy that was so successful in A-stan and Iraq . . . More seriously, this is the US strategy of endless war: no big battles, no decisive victories, just a MIC money pit that maximizes the kickbacks back home. It worked so well for us that now we're forcing it on our allies, first in Ukraine and now in Israel.

@obihahn IMHO, two reasons to keep using the “military aged males” descriptor:1. Yes it's a scare tactic. 2. The narrative is that illegals are poor refugees/asylum seekers, but refugees and fleeing people are always, overwhelmingly women, children, and old men. Focusing on the prevalence of military age men emphasizes that these are, best case, economic migrants, and, worst case, the most dangerous demographic for crime and terrorism.

@FortyTwo Silicone Valley was the San Fernando Valley, a.k.a., the San Pornando Valley; nicknamed for a key component of many of the starlets involved. It was the porn capitol of the world until a combination of California regulation and Silicon Valley (which facilitated the ocean of free online porn), drove the performers out of California and the money out of the business.

@mhjohnson @NoBeret Claudine Gay is doing a great job as president of Harvard. The problem is the false assumption that her job involves the study or expansion of human knowledge and/or teaching that knowledge to others. This is outdated; you might was well criticize her for not making sure all her students have buggy-whips for their horse-drawn carriage rides. Her job is to promote and enforce neo-marxist dogma and she appears to be quite good at it, hence the full support of her board.

FX's "Murder at the end of the world" has some nice moments, has some not so nice moments of vomiting prog-tard bullshit, is mostly interesting, and is, at the end, a modern remake of Forbidden Planet . . . Change My Mindhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnPl4PuNb5U

@Invictus While I disagree that we're going to see city-states, I think it would be great because it would provide a path to a national divorce. The divide in the US isn't red states vs. blue states, it's red countryside vs. blue cities; the only practical separation path that doesn't involve a civil war is a league of city states splitting apart from the rest of the country. It won't happen because of progressives pathological need for totalitarian control, but it's a nice idea.

This has been going around with a Telegram link that I can't get to work, but I found it on youtube: CNN Rupars RFK Jr. so well that his own wife falls for it, then doubles down while interviewing him; full speech, in context is at the end.(if you're unfamiliar, Rupar is a verb named after Vox "journalist" Aaron Rupar; it means "To completely mischaracterize a statement or video by omitting context.")https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7beJas3-Sk
