What's your #Chess personality? Find out here: https://www.chesspersonality.com/ Mine was escape artist: https://www.chesspersonality.com/type/escape-artist No idea if this quiz has any validity whatsoever, but I felt like it described my play style reasonably well. I didn't really look at any of the others personality types, though.

Are there any good videos out there on practical advice for text-editing tricks and tips for vailla #emacs that goes beyond what is found in the tutorial?

I love Vim's modal editing language. I find it very expressive, and I find Emacs native keybindings lacking in that regard. The tutorial helps some, but in my opinion editing based on just what's in the tutorial does not get you anywhere near what you can do with the tutorial from Vim. Surely others have enhanced that for themselves, and that's sort of what I'm looking for.For example, I could imagine something like Avy being extremely useful from a text-editing perspective. (2/2)

Anyone have a good #youtube solution in #Emacs? I'm thinking about something like using the minibuffer to search for videos/channels, and spawning MPV to play videos. It might also be nice to have the ability to create playlists and such.

If you have someone on speakerphone and other people are around it should be an unwritten rule that you inform them that the conversation is not private.

I've been told that #science is a process of refinement towards the truth, and generally not an outright rejection of prior paradigms, but I wonder in what sense that's true. Sure the old theory had predictive power, and the new theory is more accurate and more precise, but each theory brings presuppositions with it that can be totally supplanted by a newer theory. (1/2)

For instance, even though for most things #relativity provides only a minor correction to Newton, relativity has a spacetime which is dynamic and constantly interacting with the world, whereas Newton had a static and separated space and time. So in some sense #Einstein seems like a refinement to Newton, but in another sense it seems to also reject and supplant Newton. So I kind of wonder about the mantra that science is a slow march towards the truth. Parts of it seem like a violent revolution.

I wonder if this will effect #brave as well since they are based on #chrome, or if they will be able to make the necessary adjustments to avoid this. Maybe it's about time to return to #Firefox https://arstechnica.com/google/2023/12/chromes-next-weapon-in-the-war-on-ad-blockers-slower-extension-updates/

@mitchmarq42xyz code bases?Does X lack meaningfully in performance? I haven't noticed if so. For instance, comparing to #windows (which is the only other thing I can really compare to) everything I've used in X feels crisp.I guess if you're using a physical display setup not supported by X that makes sense.I'd heard of the permission control thing, but I guess I didn't really understand why I should care. In some cases it almost sounded like a hindrance to me.
