They also said you can sit on your butt and pray your life away, doing no good deeds, and get to heaven. Really selfish idea. Whereas Catholics say "Faith without works is dead". @Linnas @kyupin1365 A few years ago, Ken Burns did a series titled "The Roosevelts". It was about Teddy, Franklin AND Eleanor. Some historians are trying to include a woman's contribution and relationships to historical events. Last night I watched a series on CNN about Lincoln and the Civil War. It had a lot of discussion of Mary Todd Lincoln, and her grave mental problems from having three of her four sons die before adulthood. She got the usual criticism of First Ladies having fancy dress balls. It didn't look good in the midst of the bloodiest war the United States has ever been in. The White House and the Capitol Building were built by slaves.

They also took a bunch of money with them and shifted it to somebody else. So this is what happens when Bernie gets millions of people motivated to change things, they join the DSA, and establishment Democrats refuse to accept progressives. And Bernie was stopped from getting the nomination TWICE by the establishment Democrats. So fuck them. A lot of people in the U.S. have no political party.

@GrumpyOldNurse @Lieliver @Ismat @Linnas @StrawberrySiren @alanecarry I think that as part of their compulsions, they are OC about the gender woo woo, and when they say "nonbinary" or "GNC" they have a list in their heads of which actions/articles of clothing are male, and which are female, when it is really not necessary. Like they have to keep score in the obsession over their behavior and dress. Decades ago we had movie stars like Marlene Dietrich/Greta Garbo in a tux, and they said that was being androgynous. Androgynous is a perfectly acceptable word. I just thought women in a tux, top hat and cane is a tired old sterotype of Depression-era musicals. I wear men's T shirts a lot, does that make me enby or GNC? I used to wear my husband's slacks, because we have the same length of inseam. I don't think that does anything to change that I am a woman.

@Rachelheartsb I have a good man, and he's an ally. But I do recognize that good men are quite rare. I'm a baby boomer and he is an older baby boomer. I think some of it is that the porn magazines back then, like Playboy, despite being porn, were artfully done pictures of beautiful ladies. Yeah they were sex objects, but there wasn't the degradation, extreme objectification, and mental and physical torture there is now in porn. Porn has gotten so pervasive with the last two generations that I seriously believe most young people are seriously messed up from it.

@hanafiyyah @Rachelheartsb Yes. I hit college in the early 70s. I had a boyfriend who took me to porn movies, when you had to go to an unmarked adult theater where they had real film. I watched all that stuff and didn't know what to think, because I was brainwashed, as we all are, by society. Now I look at his taking me to see Deep Throat, Behind the Green Door, and trash like that as trauma bonding. That was being sold as "liberated" by some of the feminists. The "liberation" that they were selling us meant "sexually available to men at all times possible". He was a super math nerd, going to grad school at one of the premier techie schools in the country. They often have "Institute" or "Technology" in the name. Fortunately, he broke up with me. Looked him up later and he became a computer science professor, which I fully expected, but he also became a rabid Jesus freak. I think this was definitely connected with the porn habit, which he was ashamed of. I dodged some serious bullets over the years with my breakups. I think about some of the old boyfriends decades later, and realize that they had some kinks that were disturbing. They weren't nearly as bad as the ones now, like choking and hitting, but they disturbed me and I'm glad I got away from them.

@Magnesium @polarisera @JadisCharn The Republican party USED to be the party of civil rights. They were the original sponsors of the Equal Rights Amendment in the 20s. They flipped. Now they are openly against civil rights, except for the trans issue. I am weary of identity politics and tokenism. I don't think virtue signaling (This candidate is female/Hispanic/black/disabled/whatever, so you should vote for them) works. Sure, we have a female black Asian vice president now, but will all this woke signaling make any difference??? I want somebody to be qualified for the job, no matter if they have 3 heads and purple skin, before any other qualifications. I think the Democrats are doing this at the moment with Kamala and did it with President Obama. Educated black man, therefore he is liberal. Nope. A lot of us are seeing through this. The Republicans were doing tokenism in 1982, when they nominated Sandra Day O'Connor to the Supreme Court. Reagan was president. I was in law school at the time. I kept telling people, "Just because she's a woman doesn't mean she will make rulings favorable to women". Mostly other law students looked at me like I was crazy. I think Justice O'Connor was qualified, but she certainly wasn't any liberal. From reading her opinions, I don't think she's a great legal thinker, either. Ruth Bader Ginsberg realized that to change the law for women, she was going to have to bring cases on appeal where men were discriminated against, and the law was not applied to provide equal protection (14th Amendment). The movie about her life, On The Basis of Sex, gives a good basic introduction to her career as an appellate lawyer. Sometimes the light bulb won't go on in some peoples' heads unless you show them that the sex discrimination happened to a man. Then they get it. It's similar to the selective deafness men have when a woman says something. Then a man says the same thing, and suddenly, the first man has his hearing restored. Women can say something over and over again, and get ignored. Then when a man says the same thing, other men listen. GRRRRRR

@Hollahollara @munchface Hmmm interesting angle. Let me tell you about one who had an excellent engineering job, yet did not have a girlfriend. I met a guy I was interested in (out of desperation/hot-n-bothered) who was a super science nerd, but was very sociable. Techie types are definitely my type of nerd, but this guy was super extreme in his nerd-dom. I don't think any of his nerd dom was about Star Wars or any sci-fi, just hard science stuff like Fourier transforms (electrical engineering)/math/physics. He would arrange parties for his friends in Mensa. His ideal job would have been as an activities director on a cruise ship!! The guy who talks to you in the morning in the auditorium and tells you the daily schedule, and all the fun things you can do and eat all day!! But he was extremely immature and skittish. This was in a large urban church volleyball group for single adults.He was so skittish that I was one of the few women who was weird enough and would talk to him. He even tore up a piece of envelope and wrote something horrible on it. He got mad at me for "talking to him after volleyball in the parking lot, waaah, waah, because I could have been at my (SuperTechieFamousCollege) Computer Center, updating my resume." And mailed it to me!! So at the time I started going to a different large urban church (Unitarian Universalist) and met the guy who was my soulmate. Started going out with him. He was a few years older than I was. SuperNerd was about 35-40, as most of the people in the group were around that age. So one day I am at the UU church and SuperNerd walks up. Soulmate and i are standing around vibing in our closeness. SuperNerd walks up, talks to me for a few minutes, and walks away. I do not introduce him to my soulmate. Later, I hear through the grapevine that's he's pissed at me because I didn't introduce him to my older and grayer and balder boyfriend. Also through the grapevine, a girlfriend of mine told me that SuperNerd was asking her, "How's S____? How's she doing?". Girlfriend, bless her mightily, ripped into SuperNerd about how terrible he had treated me. We had gone to the opera together once. I don't know what his reaction was, but I was so glad she ripped him a new one. I bet he's become an incel. He could chatter away but a one-on-one relationship was too much for his brain to handle. Another bullet dodged.
