@sean I like that idea. I filed a github issue so maybe it’ll get picked up.

@sean @ElfLord Yea that’s one of the reasons given. But Gandalf is also afraid of the temptation. I don’t remember if this was in the movies or just the books, but he knows the ring would tempt him into using it to defeat Sauron but the ring’s evil would overcome him.He also has a mandate to not interfere. When he’s Gandalf the Gray, his role is to inspire, not lead. It’s only when he becomes Gandalf the White that he start taking action on his own.

@frosch Hey, I saw an instance chat recently where you said you were gonna update Pleroma, but I don’t know how long ago that was (:blobsad: no timestamps). You said it had been a while; did everything go smoothly?

So I flashed Plasma Mobile Beta 2 to a SD card last night and my #PinePhone successfully booted it. Even running from the SD card, it was way smoother than the Phosh build that came on the phone. Now I have to figure out how to install it to the phonehttps://adhoc.systems/notes/pinephone-plasma-mobile

@sean @witchescauldron Diaspora was quite popular in its heyday, and its federation design is ostensibly good. It had a healthy community for a long time, and the privacy scopes were better than what we have now.I think this is the part you’re missing. Diaspora did succeed, but then it didn’t keep succeeding. Mastodon hasn’t been around long enough to go through the same cycle as Diaspora. We’ll see if the mastodon team can keep iterating in a way to keep it relevant. Also, Mastodon received multiple grants from various organizations and has a patreon worth more than 70,000 USD a year. And it has more than one developer. There is a core team of a few people and you can’t leave out all of the developers working on related projects like Glitch, Hometown, mastodon.py, etc. Those contribute to the success of the whole ecosystem and can’t be discounted.

@dejfcold Pleroma is the closest you can get. It has swappable frontends, though most are focused on microblogging. @sean is working on a frontend for more long form blogging that he’s said is supposed to be Diaspora-like. I’ve heard of various frontends that were Instagram-like, but haven’t seen any recently.

At one point, there was a static frontend in development for #Pleroma. Did that ever get finished? Does anyone know where the repo is?

@feld Is it in a separate repo or the backend repo? I might be interested in doing some work on it.

https://blog.mozilla.org/firefox/the-fox-is-still-in-the-firefox-logo/This story is stupid and emblematic of how easily small stuff blows up when everybody gets to express an opinion. But I think it also shows how little faith people have in #Mozilla. And Mozilla didn't even need to make a response, but they responded by saying learn to spot fake news. They don't even see how far from their own userbase they are.

@bugaevc @meeper @alexandra We’re microblogging after all; That’s only because you’re using mastodon. The fediverse is more than microblogging and you shouldn’t need to switch services to participate in multiple styles of interaction

@bugaevc @alexandra @meeper but I mean you’re microblogging because mastodon doesn’t let you do anything else. There’s no reason you couldn’t also post full blog posts

Is there a way in #Phoenix to specify a route with a path param constrained to certain values? Something likeget "/:type", PageController, :by_type, when :type in ["one", "two", "three"]🔼 threw an error when i tried it#Elixir

@sean RTS games on console, like Halo Wars and Frostpunk, generally use a menu feel for all the actions you can perform. I've found it to be a really easy paradigm to understand and control.

@sean It would prolly depend on the server. As long as the server doesn't reject types it doesn't know, i don't see why not. Though looking at the canonical URL would most likely show a lower fidelity than looking at the post on a server that does support that type.

@pixelfed There’s also copy on the site which refers to toots, which is a mastodon specific term. Post would be a better term, especially since not all fediverse posts are even compatible with mastodon

@volpeon @nutsandbolts To add to this, it gets even worse when governments or companies start hearing the mastodon marketing, because their reach is even greater. The EU is on the fediverse but all their communication about it highlights mastodon instead of the fediverse as a whole. So these larger organizations are trying to make a beneficial move, but just amplifying mastodon's overreach. Its especially a concern since a lot of these organization are giving mastodon grant money. Smaller projects don't see anywhere near the financial/engineering contributions that mastodon gets because mastodon has used this advertising method since it was founded.
