As a regular traveller, I recently worked out it was cheaper to travel with no clothes and buy everything in a local Primark or equivalent on arrival, and dump the clothes when I leave than pay airline luggage fees. It feels a terrible waste but money is money.

@fesshole so smug people apparently know every charity shop location near every airport around the world and have time to drop by there when on business trips... 🤔

@fesshole I read "travel with no clothes" and initially took it to mean "get on the plane naked."

@fesshole I don't do this with clothes but sometimes I do with toiletries. easier to buy a small bottle of shampoo/toothpaste at the destination than try to guess at what airport security is willing to accept that particular day

@fesshole Nobody has apparently looked into what a disaster clothing donation is in 2025. Throwing Primark Clothes directly into a landfill has about the same effect with a significantly smaller carbon footprint.

@fesshole Not donating them is a mistake, I think. As others have said.Conversely, when I used to travel to the US a lot (many years ago) for work, I used to travel with one suitcase inside another (Matryoshka doll-style), with everything I needed inside. Then I'd buy clothes and travel home with two suitcases. The difference in material quality between North America and Europe is *staggering*. I have shirts I bought there that are old enough to drink, yet still look new.

@fesshole What's even cheaper is not traveling at all and staying in your house fully naked with all the windows drawn forever. You won't even need to own clothes. It's inconvenient, but money is money.
