@lizzy case in point, steam deck (which is a pretty popular hardware with preinstalled linux)from what fae has seen, people generally love desktop mode on it (which uses plasma desktop environment), to the point where a lot of people report that they have never used linux before and are using steam deck as their main computer after docking

pretty convinced fae wants to migrate away from self-hosting iceshrimp.net :sylveon_happy:the tricky part however is finding an akkoma instance that has sylveon emojis(look, fae is too shy to ask an instance admin of whatever instance fae joins to add them, and for faer, those emojis are kinda important :sylveon_melt:)also, an extra requirement is that posts should be publicly viewable, so social.translunar.academy isn't an option for faerdoes anyone have any recommendations, fae is certainly considering donotsta.re (it was recommended by Lili in the past), however fae would need to ask an admin to add sylveon emojis before fae would register, and,,, well,,, fae is pretty shy :sylveon_uwu:

so, yesterday and today was pretty nice :sylveon_uwu:while returning from a library to return a book (which, sadly, fae didn't read), certain someone that fae knows recognized faer, and we talked a bit about various things, she told faer that she is going on therapy in few minutes, and fae suggested if she could possibly go to faer flat after she is done with it :sylveon_happy:so, yeah, we talked a bit, even went on a bit of a walk around the place fae lives in, it was really nice :sylveon_uwu:and then she suggested if she could come tomorrow, and cook something, and fae is like, sure :sylveon_happy:and yeah, we talked a lot, fae helped her with some programming related stuff, she made ramen (which was really tasty., and spicy, but well, fae likes spicy things), we even played a bit of pokopia over gameshare (the multiplayer is very limited in that game, but it's still, nice) :sylveon_aww:it's nice to not be lonely for once :sylveon_happy:

eh, not gonna lie, fae is missing voice chat on one of discord servers fae was on, as well as archipelago sessions fae had on one of servers fae was onstill wishing there would be a proper discord replacement :sylveon_sad:fae did try using stoat chat a bit, but, it's clear that it's not there, fae had a lot of issues with notifications over there, if a laptop goes asleep, the chat window doesn't show new messages while that was happening (requiring refreshing the browser window), which is bad for a chat application, plus there is a lot of jank (albeit the kind you can mostly work around, the handling of sleep mode in laptops is frankly the worst one)matrix sucks on many levels (there are way too many issues to talk about for faer), and signal requires a phone number and is centralizedso, yeah, fae will actually be back on discord to some extent (albeit much lower than it used to be in the past), as much fae doesn't like that,,, fae genuinely cannot recommend any other platform at this pointRE: i.use.akkoma.btw.sylveon.social/notes/aix7xnd8s3f55mr7

managed to set up halloy with soju bouncer :sylveon_uwu:took a while to get halloy working, as the default configuration pretty much sucks, but that's okay, as fae adjusted it to be actually pretty reasonable :sylveon_aww:why migrate away from quassel fae used previously? in short, it's due to quasseldroid not working for faer without disconnecting the phone from wifi (which, what?), as well as quassel not handling hidpi all that welland considering halloy set up a policy banning llms a few hours ago, fae felt like checking it out :sylveon_happy:fae currently only connects to the starlight network irc server with halloy (as a way to test how well halloy works without having to configure every single irc network fae connects to), but fae will look later into shutting faer quassel bouncer down :sylveon_uwu:

in i.use.akkoma.btw.sylveon.social/notes/aju10pll8bk79z84, fae mentioned that fae was getting switch 2, and this decision was pretty sudden for faer :sylveon_happy:in normal circumstances, fae wouldn't do that, after all, fae isn't even employed, fae has a lot of games to play already, so it makes sense to try to save money, and well, fae can be pretty patient, however the world is anything but normalfae is a pretty big fan of pokemon mystery dungeon series, however that game wasn't even announced, but considering how big of a success rescue team dx was (selling 2 million copies, when super mystery dungeon sold 1.22 million copies), fae has no doubt that a new pokemon mystery dungeon game is in developmentthe dev team responsible for rescue team dx released the mystery dungeon of serpentcoil island like two years ago, so it's kinda reasonable for faer to expect a mystery dungeon game in a year or two, and it's very likely that it's a pokemon one :sylveon_uwu:but, okay, the game wasn't even announced yet, like fae has no idea it is even in development (even if it is very likely to be), or if it will be even good, why not wait to purchase the console when it will actually have mystery dungeonsimple, as fae mentioned previously, the world isn't normal :sylveon_sad:fae was able to find a switch 2 for 1800 pln in a store, which is a relatively low price all things considered (in fact, few hours after fae made a purchase, that store increased the price to 2000 pln, which was the price it was at in other stores)switch 2 consoles struggled to sell due to a lack of system seller and a pretty high price, and nintendo expected them to sell a lot more, so they produced a lot of thosethis effectively meant that stores pretty much were filled with switch 2 units that stores had no idea how to sell, resulting in them lowering the prices, just to sell the inventory that was filling their shelvesthe thing is, pokopia is that system seller, so stores sell a lot more now, and they can return to normal pricesbut here is a thing, how long can switch 2 remain on normal prices?the price of ram in last 7 months increased 8.5 times, the price of ssd increased 4.5 timesthose components are pretty much very important for manufacturing consoles, and the price increases are absurd, likely to rise even further, and the impact of those increases is very visible - steam decks aren't sold anymore, steam machine was delayed to who knows when, and sony increased playstation 5's cost from $550 to $650 a few days agonintendo is currently depending on units produced long time ago, before all those component price increases happened, but realistically they will have to increase the price of switch 2, now that those consoles actually start actually sellingso, yeah, pretty much bought a console, just to not be stuck having to purchase it at much higher price, because well, fae would probably inevitably purchase it anyways :sylveon_uwu:

I was at a shitty crustpunk repository getting software after-work. One of those shitholes where the maintainers clearly hate you. So the maintainer and I were ignoring one another when someone sits next to me and he immediately says, "no. get out."And the dude next to me says, "hey i'm not doing anything, i'm a customer." and the maintainer reaches under the counter for a bat or something and says, "out. now." and the dude leaves, kind of yelling. And he was dressed in a punk uniform, I noticed.Anyway, I asked what that was about and the maintainer was like, "you didn't see his vest but it was all genai shit. Vibe code and stuff. You get to recognize them."And i was like, ohok and he continues."you have to nip it in the bud immediately. These guys come in and it's always a nice, polite one. And you serve them because you don't want to cause a scene. And then they become a regular and after awhile they bring a friend. And that dude is cool too.And then THEY bring friends and the friends bring friends and they stop being cool and then you realize, oh shit, this is a vibe coding bar now. And it's too late because they're entrenched and if you try to kick them out, they cause a PROBLEM. So you have to shut them down.And i was like, 'oh damn.' and he said "yeah, you have to ignore their reasonable arguments because their end goal is to be terrible, awful people."And then he went back to ignoring me. @fiore yeah, absolutely, albeit currently snug.moe is iceshrimp-js :sylveon_uwu:definitely planning to use akkoma-fe once the instance migrates to .net, but admittedly part of why fae wants to migrate away is that akkoma-fe is kinda janky currently on .net, even if it works, and fae currently uses akkoma-fe (future releases of .net may fix a lot of the issues fae experiences)

@lukyan yeah, mastodon very much insists on quote controls, and won't show quotes (other than self-quotes) from software that doesn't support them :sylveon_sad:this limitation is quite easy to remove when self-hosting mastodon, essentially in app/serializers/rest/status_serializer.rb, the following lineobject.quote if object.quote&.acceptable?should be replaced withobject.quotefae didn't test whether that would work, but fae thinks it should :sylveon_uwu:

played pokemon champions for a bit (well, an hour or so), and wow, it is so slow,,, :sylveon_sad:battles on pokemon showdown are so much more fast-paced, and considering this game is essentially like showdown, well, the comparison is kinda unavoidablemanaged to win four battles in a row on the ladder (abusing espathra baton pass to pass speed boost to other pokemon, as fae happened to be able to recruit them), but frankly, the way everything takes forever discourages faer from continuing(by the way, fun fact, fae worked on pokemon showdown, you can actually see sugar700 on pokemonshowdown.com/credits :sylveon_uwu:)

okay, what the,,,so it was brought to faer attention that pokemon champions plays better on switch 1 (by reading some comments about champions on the web),,, and fae checked,,, what,,, :sylveon_shocked:okay, so on menu navigation, on switch 2, both handheld and docked fae has rather noticeable input lagwhich does not happen on faer switch lite?????how do things like that happen??????maybe it's a placebo effect for faer, but,,, huh,,,

apparently there is another issue in switch 2 version of pokemon championswhen docked, it only plays at full hd, unless removed from the dock, and gets reinserted :sylveon_shocked:and fae checked, yes, reinserting the game into the dock while the game is running solves that issue,,, which,,, what,,,still doesn't solve input lag
