       @hp @thomholwerda I grew up in a world where most couldn’t care less about computers but the few that were into it were so passionate it simply had never occurred to me coding could be “just a day job”.I am now 51. It really came as a shock to me when I first met, notably younger, people who just did programming as a job, as one could be an insurance salesmen or anything because it paid decently. To me it sounded like “oh yes, I write songs but it’s my day job, I am not that much into music otherwise”.I think both worlds can coexist in parallel though. Some will use any tool the job imposes on them to get it done and go back home, others will try to have fun selectively learning new things.

       @Screwtapello Have you tried niri by any chance ? I discovered it with Dank Linux (on top of Debian or Fedora) and haven’t looked back.It has that minimalist feeling but a very natural positional way of laying out panes without having to think too much about it as happens in other tiling WM.Sorry for the unasked for evangelism 🥺

       @jibsaram Can you believe I just hadn’t noticed this difference in packaging 😅. I assume it is a way to bypass the traditional older packages in Debian without breaking everything. All I can say is it didn’t damage the rest of my system AFAIK.My first experience was with Fedora (on a M1 Air on Asahi) and after a few months getting increasingly dependent on it I decided to run the same install script on my Debian desktop. It was plain Trixie + Proxmox Kernel as this doubles as a server. I used KDE not out of choice but because it seemed to handle better my multi monitor setup out of the box. Never liked KDE or Gnome that much to be honest. They work fine but I don’t get motivated using them.So I just ran the script and had my alternative desktop as an option on login and I use it all the time.PS: I just looked up the meaning of Dank. English not being my main language I had no idea about the reference to mold / or some meme reference. It mostly sounded like Thanks in German to me and I never looked further. Guess I am a bit out of touch.

       Just saw a clip about an Artemis II astronaut — the one who lost his wife — talking about childhood and his dreams and how it is beautiful to fly from a carrier and be “alone in the middle of the ocean”.I know there’s a truce but it’s a bit difficult to see American war planes and think about childhood and dreams and loved ones lost to illness and get misty-eyed...Now I just wonder what poor people this astronaut has been bombing in his past in the US Navy.

       I installed a NextCloud instance here.Any of the additional “apps” make sense ? Recommendations ?I have been using (and continue to use) ownCloud for many years. Self hosted too. I am just being next-curious.
