Electronics that run as hot as an incandescent light bulb tend to LAST about as long as an incandescent light bulb. (The vacuum tube people TRIED REAL HARD to make those not burn out.)Each blackwell GPU takes something like 600 watts, and no matter how much cooling you apply that's gonna be hotter on the inside than the outside.So AI data center chips are gonna have a half life of what, 5 years? Sure they failover, but it's not just paper depreciation. They literally burn out in use.

@regehr The rust people turned me off hard even before they got AI-pilled. I'm happy to write stuff in lua and bash and have vaguely been curious about learning zig. But at this point I highly doubt I will ever even modify an existing rust program.

I'm typing this on a laptop that came out in 2012. It was high-end then and I've upgraded it as far as it can go, but no piece of hardware that's NINE DOUBLINGS behind should still be usable, let alone slightly more powerful than a modern chromebook.That's why silicon valley's gone septic. Everything they did was pantomime while photolithigrapic die size shrinks did all the heavy lifting. Now the S-curve's bent back down again there's no more growth to be had, and they're in SCREAMING DENIAL.
