The "company" is an immortal organism that doesn't give a shit about you and will use you as cheaply as you let it.Only people can be trusted -- and not most of them. Trust is rare and hard to earn, and should be. The number of people you can *really* trust to look out for you when it's even slightly injurious to their interests is small, not because people are bad, but because the impact of misplaced trust can be career threatening.Anyone trusting an immortal legal construct is a damn fool.

Argument is broadly useless in social media. My posts are proof of existence: "look, here's what I think. It may be of use to you."There are people I sometimes share with whom I don't agree at all in other areas. I don't make disclaimers, I just share when it's suitable. (It usually does mean I mostly agree with them.)But I'm almost never looking for an argument. "Have you also considered?" Sure, usually fine."You're wrong?" I'll ignore or block you, depending on circumstances.

@mwl @TerryHancock Don't much agree with that one. I don't know of another political party in the world as diverse as the Democratic Party. (Maybe in Brazil? I haven't done a deep dive there. Not in Europe.)Of course "left" means different things to different people. In countries that are whiter than any American state, they're nicer to each other.

My oldest boy works at NASA in supercomputing -- he's said I can call him a rocket scientist now, he mostly works in fluid dynamics but his last project involved modeling rockets directly.He's not directly involved with Artemis II, but called me in absolute joy after it launched.I gave up a writing career to raise those kids. If they'd turned out dummies it would have pained me. :-) But I got five good ones.

If you say you're going to do something, and someone else's immediate response is that you can't, or won't? I won't say anything dramatic like "get that person out of your life," they may have other virtues that make them worth hanging onto ...But it's a big strike against. You need to manage the space you let that person have in your head.

Were all the assassination attempts on Trump faked?Probably not? But what's true is that the reason people don't believe it is not that people don't want to kill Trump: plenty do. A firefighter got shot next to Trump in Pennsylvania? No one thinks fash wouldn't sacrifice one of their own like that.The only reason anyone still sane is skeptical they were all faked is that these people don't seem competent to carry it off.
