       Argument is broadly useless in social media. My posts are proof of existence: "look, here's what I think. It may be of use to you."There are people I sometimes share with whom I don't agree at all in other areas. I don't make disclaimers, I just share when it's suitable. (It usually does mean I mostly agree with them.)But I'm almost never looking for an argument. "Have you also considered?" Sure, usually fine."You're wrong?" I'll ignore or block you, depending on circumstances.

       @mwl @fatsam Most of the time, there isn't really room (or patience) for a properly-supported argument on social media.I do like the occasional essay from an opposing perspective.But what we mostly get is some combination of rants, virtual signaling, rage bait, and partisan political propaganda.I guess there is a place for such things (consensus must be built for politics to work), but it's not conducive to clear-eyed objective thinking.It's not like I'm immune or anything. But I have moments of clarity. 😅

I can't think how long it's been I didn't think every conservative argument was in bad faith. Buckley might have been the last.

       @mwl @TerryHancock Don't much agree with that one. I don't know of another political party in the world as diverse as the Democratic Party. (Maybe in Brazil? I haven't done a deep dive there. Not in Europe.)Of course "left" means different things to different people. In countries that are whiter than any American state, they're nicer to each other.
