A curiosity I stumbled upon today: news of the first BBC play to be broadcast on television, in July 1930. The production was "The Man With the Flower in His Mouth" by Pirandello, starring Val Gielgud (brother of Sir John). This was before the BBC started making its own programs, and just months after the first TV broadcasts began. At this time BBC television was broadcast for only 30 minutes in the morning and for another 30 minutes at midnight.

@gutenberg_org He also used the word "Nosferatu," which doesn't seem to mean anything in any language. Ironic, since his character van Helsing is supposed to have been based on the great linguist and translator, Max MĂĽller.

@noctuaminervae @gutenberg_org @scotlit Funnily enough I was reading the Wikipedia article on the etymology of "Nosferatu" on Sunday, after watching a gorgeous restored print of Tod Browning's 1931 "Dracula". Highly recommended, but watch out for the Transylvanian armadilloes! Incidentally, this was not the first film with "Dracula" in the title, but the other, Drakula Halála (Austria, 1921) has been lost.https://archive.org/details/dracula.-1931

@dangillmor Presumably after another backlash, they've edited the headline, which now reads "President Said to Be Backing Off Plans for $1.8 Billion Fund After Backlash." Several times recently, though, they've presented administration propaganda as if it were reporting.
