I cannot stress how thankful I am to be able to afford shiatsu massage cushions. It doesn't replace the massages my brother and I used to give each other, but it's something. A good something.I've had a few good ones and some very bad ones and sadly price is no indication of quality, but getting a good one and having it last a couple years of heavy use, it pays for itself quickly. It's not for everyone by a long shot, but it's great for me personally.

I suppose since I'm on a new server, I should also put out my occasional reminder to build out a spice library.Spices can last a while, especially frozen. Don't clear a shelf, but when you have a little extra, pop for "psst..." brand if you see it. Cheap and the quality is fine. It'll give you the basics.Once you have the basics, maybe pop for something interesting. Good spices can make anything amazing. I have dressed stuff from a can into gourmet flavors without having to use much.

Seriously, SpaghettiOs are a favorite of mine for this. When I was low and just going to eat it cold out of a can, I forced myself to heat it up and spice it, and that did wonders for my self-esteem. It took little effort and the result made me feel pampered. And those noodles in butter sauce are a canvas to spice across. You can do the same with cooked spaghetti if you cook. Don't get me wrong, I don't have the spoons for it, but the same applies. It doesn't take much to make it amazing.

And while I'm sharing knowledge, have a recipe for amazing dip:1 medium tub of sour cream (the one that's effectively square in profile)1 packet McCormick brown gravy mix1 tbsp minced dried onionCarefully mix the brown gravy mix into the sour cream until almost even. Add onion. Mix until even.Done.Prep time: 5 minutesRefrigerate any unused portion (there will not be an unused portion)

While I'm being spicy, it's all well and good to be anti-car, but not everyone has that luxury. My mom bought my house because she wanted a place where we could live within a mile of our own home. We had a grocery, restaurants, shopping for anything we needed, and school from 7th grade onward all in walking distance. We walked a lot. We biked where we couldn't walk. But everything medical is across town and the bus system here is an underfunded mess with shit hours. She drove to work.

Seeing a lot of conflicting stuff, so since this went over well last time, just a reminder, before you share that link, #PACE yourself. Is it: • Positive - everyone can use good news! • Actionable - if not, can we do something? • Current - oops, actually, did we already? • Educational - if all else fails, do people not know? The media wants us drinking from the fire hose and outrage sells clicks. That's not healthy and it's designed to overwhelm you. Drinking through a straw delivers what you actually need to get to work.

@dosnostalgic Good heavens; how many pounds of flesh did THAT piece of kit cost you? I'd ask about first-borns, but you only get one of those. XD

@Paradox Every priest is different, honestly. Some are the kindest people you could meet, the type that could forgive Judas; one of them I had would've been a Hell's Angel if he hadn't felt the call. Had a motorcycle and everything and was kind of a pain in the ass, "my way or the highway," sometimes going behind people's backs like he did posting applications at the Conservatory to replace our bitchy choir director (she found it there and cried). That could be kind of funny sometimes, but he alienated a lot of people despite liking my family well enough. Another was experiencing extreme culture shock coming to the US and ended up super homophobic because that's what he chose to blame our decadence on. Others are just plain terrible people I would not share air with again, fire and brimstone, "ignore the liberal pope" types. But none of them would have been there if they didn't believe strongly. Whether they even believe in the same God is another matter.

@Paradox To clarify a bit, not everyone actually sees them up close and personal like I did. Most people kind of show up for an hour a week and don't otherwise engage. My family was engaged in various forms of service for several years and that gave us more opportunity than most. That trailed off as things started to get nasty politically.
