Just reading on my night shift break that Juno Download has abruptly shut down with little explanation, a few days after Nina Protocol announced it was packing up and going home due to a lack of revenue. The landscape of music marketplaces is becoming increasingly bloody. #music

Yes, and I think we're in a similar period of transition - my current malaise is affected by the fact I'm spending a little bit more time with people who are putting out stuff through Bandcamp alternatives like Mirlo, Unstream, Faircamp, Bandwagon, Jamcoop... it's a long, overwhelming list, and some of them will endure better than others, I think.

@lardmotel Mirlo is pretty good but I think it will be a challenge to stop human nature intervening and growing the service to the point it then gets bought out in 15 years a la Bandcamp.That said, Bandcamp is still my main go-to because I like the breadth of stuff on there - Mirlo is a village, and I can find genuine independent stuff I'd never find in the crowded space of BC, but then I like how you can get something from Warp or Nettwerk right next to the DIY artists. One size fits all.

@lardmotel That sums it up quite well, and I'm sorry to hear Australia's not immune to what's currently happening over here. It's always easier to point blame and scorn at people than it is to actually change anything, I suppose.

Found myself listening to David Bowie's 'Reality' for the first time in a while, one of those perfect 'driving on a hot day' albums. 'She'll Drive The Big Car' might be my favourite Bowie song. Apparently DB plays Stylophone, but I've never been able to hear it...Crossposted with @openvibe

@lardmotel Had my copy arrive the other day - haven't had the chance to listen but agree you and DE did a good job blowing up the original CD cover assets. Nice to have the booklet as it would have presumably been mailed out in the 90s, with a single staple! Futurismo's BMG vinyl felt a bit more premium with the printed inner sleeves and new commentary from yourself pointing out the flaws, but on the other hand Cuisine has no misspellings, and the articles are nice to have...

@lardmotel It's one thing having owls doing your mail like it's the 1940s and we're back in our 'carrier pigeons' era, but who wants their mail delivered by mistreated owls that have had an entire P-shaped chunk of their bodies carved away? That can't be good for their in-flight aerodynamics.

@lardmotel To be fair, a crappy effect can take you out of the story sometimes, but I suppose good effects can do that as well. Not a big fan of all these pretentious aspect ratios that seem to have crept into TV progs and ads in recent years for no reason (4:3 or 2:1).Been rewatching Red Dwarf recently, which tried to do ambitious sci-fi (models, VFX, etc) within the confined context of a multi-camera sitcom shot on video... so it looks a bit ragged now, but hey, the characters and gags work.

@lardmotel Yes - a lot of the comments are along the lines of 'Channel 4 hasn't done anything worthwhile in 20 years' or 'Like the BBC, it's not as good as it used to be'. Not saying that Channel 4 (or the BBC) haven't made crap programmes or dumbed down in the name of survival, but TV is like music, there's good stuff out there, you just have to put the effort into looking for it. 'Don't Hug Me I'm Scared' was good but buried within C4's on demand service.
