       @controlfreak I guess I lived in a time when you would get sick to death of the 'warmth noise etc..' etc. that your shitty cassettes would impose on you - it wasn't a choice.

       @controlfreak @millihertz @MaxCorp Right. Exactly. That’s why I’m spending a lot of thinking about ‘hauntology’ - an illusionary past that has a grip on the present. Some people (like Boards of Canada) understand this nostalgia and run with it. But others think that an old synthesiser is a tiki god.‘Space Age Music’ was naive and thought it was introducing some new thing. But now we yearn to be back in the 1900s.

       @lardmotel Indeed - I've also been thinking about how there's a similar problem with sci-fi as a whole - so much of that from the 50s to 70s was rooted in a naive post-war optimism ('we've been to the moon, we can do anything, the future is going to come at us fast')... an optimism that isn't there now as we realise the future might  not hold much positive profound change for us all (we're not living in anti-grav houses with hoverjets etc). So we cling to the past as a distraction.

       @jakobw @MaxCorp sorry to say I think it leads to people “living off the grid.” Which sounds ok until you encounter ‘sovereign citizens’ who don’t recognise government - or anyone else really. Their public face is usually some loopy charismatic figurehead that blames everything on migrants.Yeah that’s what cassette hiss does to society. 😀
