       Rewatching DARK on Netflix - still the most intense time travel WTF is going on creepy horror maze. Yes it’s all in German. Yes people used to share maps on the internet by the time two or three multiple people existed either end of family trees in multiple realities.It makes Stranger Things look like a kiddy ride outside a mall. #movies

       @lardmotel All in German is a SELLING POINT. Makes half the thing.The same team’s follow-up, 1899, seemed really promising – and went for MULTI-lingual – but cancelled due to not enough viewers in the first few weeks. Guess streaming services (or their shareholders) never heard of sleeper hits… 😑

       @lardmotel While Swedish puts me a bit closer to German, I never had lessons, so rely 90% on subtitles. But the sound of it, and the whole cultural vibe, adds to the atmosphere. (We’re used to subtitles here – it’s why the average degree of English proficiency here is so high.)

       @jakobw yeah I guess the heavy reference on family trees is a German thing. The small town of Winden (winding, wrenching) somehow dislocated from the outside world.

       @lardmotel #2c Some excellent performances carried it, but, for this viewer, they could not do so for the full distance. It was perhaps a bit ‘Donny Darko’ in feel? But with crying in the rain. Donny Emo. I prefer the ‘Primer’ approach, in which the characters just loosen their ties sometimes for emotional impact.
