       @itsfoss I don't fully agree with the premise, except for distro specific customized DEs, you can pretty much get any DE or TWM on any underlying distro you want. With this it ultimately comes down to:1. Do you like a rolling release, or a stable system that infrequently updates?2. Do you want immutability?3. How important is it to have a good in-place upgrading system?These are all strictly about the distro, not the DE, and they are the most important questions imo.

       @itsfoss in the last 15 years I tried so many distros and DE but I always come back to Debian with Gnome. I have a specific workflow and Gnome fits perfect for me. And Debian is the most stable imho.

       @itsfossthats true certainly. But most people have distinct apps they dont want to move between distros. So they keep them on one operating system that provides stable services. By the way this is the definition of any operation system including Linux. Switching OS often doesnot help for stable applications.

       @itsfoss Tried multiple distros in a couple years, Always  went back to XFCE, not for the speed, but the ease and flexibility. When Mint's version came along, it stuck, and my DHing was done. I like settling on an environment that I don't -have- to fiddle around with ... just get things done in the least clumsy way.
