       although we've certainly had disagreements, i'll say that i've left day 1 of #fedicon with conviction that @evan's vision has largely been realized

       that said, i do worry about all of this interoperability stuff that is being proposed by lawmakers: i don't want to interoperate with truth social for example, or facebook, or twitter.i think these would be net negatives for the fediverse.

       it's complicated though, because we want to maximize & promote software freedom, and dare i say it, but the average facebook user *needs* software freedom.  it is sad they don't even know they need it.

       @ariadne So far it seems to all be passive. The laws require software and services to permit others to interoperate with them, but no requirements that those others actually take advantage of it.
