Thanks to all that answered my small game dev survey. The large majority of respondents have intel machines.I have however picked up an Apple M5 pro laptop and will keep testing cross platform. It confirms 16Gb is the base RAM for gameplay. There’s also differences in screen brightness and aspect (pro has fancy display). A big positive is the M5 has impressive audio quality which is great for a music project. #gamedev #musicproduction

@lardmotel huh well completely missed that but if it helps at all another data point: 3ghz i7 48gb ram for those rare moments of gaming but got an mac air m4 (i think? can't remember it's at home) recently and am increasingly impressed by how not shit it is, esp on audio things

@rasur M4 definitely not shit, but not on par with the game machines. But the most limiting factor is my ineptitude at 3D object building and game scripting.Example - I have assets loading as needed because I thought that would speed things up. It does, but only if I load everything first THEN hide it. Otherwise there's a series of clunks as shit gets newly accessed. Durr. #gamedev

@lardmotel yeh one thing i learned the hard way on a project back in the 90's on (now) really low powered PCs was make models as low-poly count as possible (you'll thank yourself later), poss also mix in level-of-detail versions, but.. full sympathies etc. These days the RAM is generally more plentiful tho (the above was on 64MB RAM machines LOL). Dunno about the scripting tho, apart from "keep it simple" being best ;)

@rasur putting it on steam would categorise it as game with all the expectations that go with that. It is an album sleeve … actually just a sketch for the final sleeve.

@lardmotel an interactive album sleeve sounds like a banging idea TBH
