       The irony of calling it democracy when most of the time the nominees were thrust upon everyone instead of elected in primaries or run-ups to elections like Harris was, for example.        @Dan_Ramos in recent years, Colorado has had a number of Democrat STATE legislators who were long-time incumbents...... who ran for re-election and retired immediately after winning. In this state, the PARTY gets to appoint the replacement. They are usually even MORE LEFT... and totally unelected.
