       @maddy From what I've gathered, Linus has the stance of "if you're using the LLM as a tool to hand off certain mundane tasks while otherwise coding manually, then it's okay." In order to submit a kernel patch, manual review of the code with a fundamental understanding of what it's doing is a requirement.The problem is when folks are being lazy (or otherwise not skilled/knowledgeable of coding at all) and just outright hands-off make the LLM do *all* the coding for them. That's been the crux of the issue and why repos are flooded with submission tickets with nothing but vibe-coded slop.As folks keep saying, the genie is out of the bottle and LLMs aren't going away. The best we can do is learn how to use said tool effectively without becoming too reliant on it.

       @foxyloon @maddy the genie of protests against genai is also out of the bottle, let's strive to eliminate it as much as practically possibleit's dehumanizing and awful fashtech, it really should be objected to. the practical concerns are already bad and are massively outweighed by the ethical onesi really don't want to admit defeat, i want to get together with people from every profession and fight against genai as a whole

       @lumi @maddy You're not seeing the whole forest here, so to speak. The powers of the western world are fascist by nature with the thin veil of democracy draped on top. We need to address *that* if there's any hope of ultimately fixing this. Otherwise any movement of protest will just ultimately be infiltrated by fascist sympathizers and overtaken from within.You're lying to yourself if you think this hasn't already happened to the Linux Foundation and several other FOSS supporting organizations.
