I'm trying to move back to use more wired headphones, I caved and bought the 6 ft IEM cableI think it'll be a decent upgrade, main complaint now is length of the cord, 6 ft instead of 4 might just be enough to not be an issue.

@SeaDonut I'm having a look at the avantree prolink kit. It apparently has about a 20ms round trip latency while also using the microphone from your headphones AND allowing full quality audio+ mic with AptXLite. The dingle it comes with is just a generic audio device on the computer end so there shouldn't be any support woes.

@SeaDonut one of the few Bluetooth audio devices that actually support using the mic on the headphones instead of the onboard one I'm not even sure this one has.

@SeaDonut it is a tad pricey but I don't think there's much in the way of competition with that feature set and claimed latency, most other devices I've seen have 40+ ms latency which is the low end of noticable if you're doing something needing low latency.

@SeaDonut although personally having a mic that is also wireless still exists you can get a wireless lav mic kit and have much better mic quality than what any headset mic could be, downside of if you want to pass the lag mic through the adapter, you'll need a lav mic transmitter that supports 3.5mm, mainly if you are wanting Bluetooth on the phone with good mic

@Jes @SeaDonut can recommend ploopy headphones if you like open-back studio headphones. they need their own USB DAC for response correction/user EQ plus the planar drivers require a very spicy amp, but they’re super comfy and you probably won’t find anything else that gets this close to the harman target for that money. it’s hard to believe how good they are when you look at the parts (all 3D-printed and you assemble the drivers by inserting a couple magnets and sticking coils to foam pads)

@SeaDonut @mia oh no you just can't get any wired audio of any sort. The receiver is a tad quirky. It has hardware volume in a weird way where only macOS and windows and detect it properly, so on android you have to buy USB audio player pro to change the volume and on Linux you have to open alsamixer and change it in the terminal. The Nintendo switch doesn't see the dongle whatsoeverReally weird. On MacOS they show up specifically as airpods, not a generic Bluetooth headphone. I wonder if on apple devices it's doing some weird trickery for slightly better quality

@Jes even still, kinda considering getting one of logitechs cheaper headsets (rn inbetween the 325 and 321) because they look small, unassuming, and sturdy, none of which apply to my current headphones which sound like they’re on the verge of snapping into a million pieces every time i take them off or move my head too fast (and were like triple the price of the logitechs)

@SeaDonut it's about the same dongle and all the firmware for the USB audio is in the dongle. There might be some updates to it but I don't think there is.

@SeaDonut I do have to say that the headband does feel slightly flimsy since it's just 2 plastic rods but I've been dailying them for years now and they're still good as new. Less moving parts I reckon. Also if you want to throw them into a bag they don't fold in any way which could be a pro or con depending on how you look at it. I have a gigantic form for case for mine and usually only use them at my desk, so I can't say how much they can handle from tumbling

@Jes at least the connection to the earcup looks sturdier, mine have only one connection to the headband and it’s through a thin piece of plastic that attaches to *the side* of the earcup rather than down the center (mine aren’t this colorway and just a plain black but this was the best perspective photo i could quickly find)

@Jes no, don’t.. the earcups have so much play in them after a few months of use. like they twist in nearly every direction about maybe a degree or two and creak and crunch constantly and also the “ski headband” wears out SUPER QUICKLY and i need to replace the band (which is easy, to their credit) like nearly monthly (at least they’re only like 10-15 bucks tho.. although that’s kinda lipstick on a pig

@SeaDonut I don't think there's any changes in the Logitech headband after a couple years other than it naturally stretching out a bit as you wear them, which is what most headphones should do. They are a bit rattley but when it's on your head it's silent in terms of microphonics. The ear cup is hard plastic but that isn't an issue because the cups are DEEP. I wear these for hours at a time and feel no discomfort, maybe if I'm moving around a bit they start sliding around but that's the price you pay for stationary comfort. I also give Logitech credit, the Bluetooth is about as low latency as an AAC codec can get. I can play rhythm games on Bluetooth without issue, though if you can use the dongle it's much better and allows for high quality mic. The mic doesn't have the best noise cancelling but it's really clean sounding. It's just a tad compressed from the minimal noise cancelling it does internally. Personally wish there was a button combo to just entirely turn off the noise cancelling, because the side one is really natural sounding, so it has nothing to do with the mics themselves.

@SeaDonut one of the main things that get to me about the logitech headsets is that people immediately think "gaming headset, no way it can sound good" without bothering to do the least inkling of research, they sound great, they sound better than some of the headsets that some of these people recommend, in nearly every way too. I have the philips SHP9600, it's not good. it leaks sound, has a narrower soundstage, and sounds straight muffled compared to my g435. the only thing going for it is it having a 3.5mm port

@SeaDonut Don't know how the newer logitech's are sound-wise or the beyerdynamic, but I can say I'm happy with my g435, I don't really want any other pair of over-ear headphones, I'm mostly just wanting to swap to earbuds

@SeaDonut just keep in mind for the g435 using the dongle, if it's quiet on linux then run alsamixer and usb audio player pro on android, you don't really need the dongle unless you want high quality audio while using the mic, it's still handy.I can only assume the other are the same

@SeaDonut one other thing I'll leave you off with, if you want 3.5mm support with the logitech, I use the 1Mii SafeFly Min, it's very good with latency and sound quality considering it's using SBC on them, but it supports AptX Adaptive

@Jes the 270s are far closer to harman meanwhile the 770s (and 880s and 990s) have a reputation for being quite harsh and shrill sounding apparently so it’s like, i get a better sound signature, swappable cables, headbands and cushions and lighter and smaller for 100 bucks less? i’d be a moron not to also the cushions look sooo sooofttt, i want a bedsheet made of that material
