       the industrial revolution and its consequences are a goddamn miracle of human progress! we somehow got from fitting 1 billion people on the planet and pondering whether it's already too many to having more than 8 and plenty of things to go around, made surviving until the age of 80 a common occurrence rather than a rare surprise, killed a whole bunch of diseases and made others easily curable, ensured so that billions of people can afford a quality of life that would only be accessible to nobles only a few centuries ago, what's not to love? sure, a lot of that isn't equally distributed and comes at a terrible cost for some, but even then, people are hard at work solving those challenges as well!just because a small group of assholes are currently hogging a lot of that progress to themselves and preventing the wealth of this planet from being distributed more fairly, doesn't mean we should go back to a kind of society where most of people toiled hard in the fields, any possibility of a professional career depended on you being a child or friend of someone already in that career (and gave you no choice of which specific career to take) and culture was near-completely hogged by religious authorities
