       Good lord, no, LLMs cannot copyedit, at least not in any way we should accept.You. Are. Not. Immune. To. Propaganda.We have hard evidence that LLMs influence people towards fascist causes, even with only light usage. If you ask a propaganda machine to copyedit your work, your work *becomes* propaganda. And neither you nor your readers are immune.

       This is one of the many troubles of trying to argue whether or not AI "works." You're inevitably going to get into questions of works for whom, how well, at what tasks, and how you can measure that. All the while missing that you've opened a massive gaping hole in your cognition and invited fascists in for tea with an aperitif of your fucking neural structure.

       I've made the mistake of trying to talk about AI "working" in the past, and arguing on that basis. It was indeed a mistake on my part, one whose failure modes become more and more clear as AI vendors added more and more bells and whistles to make the whole magic trick seem to work. How many "r"s are there in strawberry? Sure, they can add an escape hatch to detect that question!But none of that is the point. Adding more magic doesn't fix the problems with AI.

       People keep talking about boycotting AI or abstaining from it, like boycotts or abstinence have ever affected meaningful systematic change. We are so completely and wholly unprepared for this desperate moment, it's astounding.This is not a problem that will be solved by asking capitalists to please be slightly less fascist or antagonistic to labor.
