I'm not looking forward to understanding just how damaging the SCOTUS' use of "biological sex" is. Even aside from the decision itself, just the very language of the majority opinion enshrines the idea that no matter what, a doctor's initial assignment of gender at birth is completely immutable and carries scientific meaning.

This is generational damage to civil rights, as it will likely take multiple decades to fully rebuild what was lost today and in other related cases built on the ghoulish legal theory that trans men are women and that trans women are men.As always, trans kids bear the worst brunt, as the transphobes have made their bet that almost no one will stand up for them as a category. These attacks are measured in children attempting and committing suicide.

That last part is not hyperbolae. When trans kids see how much society hates them, when their support networks have been so systematically dismantled, suicide is one of the possible results.I don't expect that reality to move much of anyone trying to hurt trans kids. We're post Sandy Hook, and in the midst of transforming society around LLMs despite knowing that they can get teens killed.But it's true regardless. This decision is stochastic violence that *will* kill children.

Yeah, I'm livid. This institutionalizes transphobic hate at a level I do not have the expertise required to understand, and trans kids bear the brunt of that violence.I'm livid at everyone who refused to give up their racist wizard books, who gave power over social media to yet another transphobic hate site, who didn't lift a fucking finger at any point... and now we have "parents' bill of rights" laws in Washington fucking state, through to the violence this morning.

I'm livid at the absolute monsters on the Court, but I kind of expect that from them. No, I'm really most intensely furious at the endless wellspring of liberal hand-wringing that enabled these fuckers at every step of the way, without doing a damn thing past the occasional flag and a sun-bleached "in this house we believe" sign on a rusted aluminum wire stand hidden in an overgrown bush.

Grab them a coffee or tea or pizza, a booster pack, something from their Steam list, send them cute cat or fox or dog or bug photos, write them a poem, just some little thing they may want or need right now.

I'm crashing out right now, but I'll be OK. I've got a good support network of caring friends and family, enough financial privilege that I can afford housing and healthcare, and I live in a city and state that still have a few protections left for folks like us.But I'm privileged that way... not all trans folks are, not by a long shot. Let someone know (respectfully and with their consent!) how much you care for them, that the world is better with them in it.
