       @herissonrose it also creates a dangerous, difficult, and *expensive* to deal with problem. but of course, there will inevitably be people who can be paid with taxpayers' money to not deal with it. to your followup: yes. or well (orwell): it is thoughtless, incompetent, and idiotic if what they value is what we value. but what they value is something entirely different, and so your point stands: it is all extremely well thought through, very competent, and terrifyingly calculating. and absurd.(total aside: tyvm for all the weather/climate info! not enough spoons / too many degrees to participate, but i enjoyed reading (genuinely))

       @moonrabbit Yeah, that's what I meant. It's only looks "incompetent" if you think others are motivated by the same things you are. What you were taught to believe in. Society, service, public good.It snaps into sense the moment you realise your interests are not aligned and never were.I hope you got the breezes down there too (much more bearable here today).My strawberries are incinerated. So is the grass.Predicted thunderstorms vanished. Of course 😩

       @herissonrose all so very not ok. and no breezes here, sigh, just more heat. but this should be the last of the worst for now at least??we've currently got an "it could storm at any minute" warning, but the sky is blue, the sun is out, and the warning keeps getting moved on by hour but its end doesn't, so i'm not convinced we'll see anything either.gods yes our grass is crisped. husband's been watering garden plants from the pump (underground cistern from when it was a farm: fills from the barn roof), but it'll be a bit till we know if we've lost anyone.how are cats? ours are eating, mercifully ...

       @moonrabbit We got windows open, and a good airflow across the house. The breeze makes such a difference to temperature and stuffiness. Cats were more active / playful AND EATING so they felt it too.Was really hoping breeze today =  thunderstorms, but no. Not enough moisture in the air. It's 35 tomorrow, and 'rents off AGAIN (Mum's Physio).Plants were watered daily and doing OK, but 3 days of The Eye of Sauron has parched them to a crisp. Raspberries also gone, on the cusp of fruit 😭
