@anya I recently learned that neither a toothpaste nor a mouthwash are supposed to cause burning sensations, and that if they do, you probably have this reaction to sulfates.

@anya (this is important because burning sensation means that you subconsciously limit the duration of toothbrushing or mouthwash use, which results in dental problems. But no doctor will tell you that!)

@anya FWIW for myself I found these: https://www.mueller.de/p/apacare-oralactin-pre-postbiotische-zahncreme-IPN2928352/ (has fluoride and hydroxyapatite and sorbitol and doesn't have sulfates; have to pay attention that it's the one with blue stripe though, this label also has other toothpastes), and https://www.mueller.de/p/apacare-oralactin-liquid-zahn-und-mundbalsam-668272/ (also has fluoride (although only half of what most other mouthwashes have) and hydroxyapatite and sorbitol, also doesn't have sulfates). Also both contain arginine for which there exists some limited research that it helps against cavities-inducing bacteria too. It's expensive but a night and day difference in feeling compared to all the other toothpastes I've ever tried, including expensive fancy medical ones that dentists give you. They are sold on various amazons in various countries too.

@IngaLovinde @anya for me it doesn't burn, but some brands do use an excessive amount of menthol that's just unpleasantly strong (similar to burning but not the same). So I do choose toothpaste based on that.

@ayke @anya yes but menthol toothpastes are a small fraction of overall market so it's easy to experiment and figure out that it's menthol that doesn't work for you.But nobody ever mentions that sulfates can be the problem, or that even there is a problem! You can spend 35 years using burning toothpastes and think that they're supposed to burn and that everybody else are also experiencing this burning sensation.
