       @jeremiah @wjmaggos this is what socialism does, it turns people's labor into a """human right""" (slavery) and that is just fundamentally wrong, and people hate it, so everyone cuts corners and cheats the system, and it breeds corruption and rewards incompetence.  it's a race to the bottom. as much of a ripoff as our health care system is in the USA at least they're not trying to convince people to kill themselves in lieu of care

       @jeremiah @Zeb you don't like MAID, you'd rather the people who can't afford care suffer and die sooner. save the rest of us money.I'll agree costs go up when there's no pressure to lower them. I think we can have universal coverage and also better incentivize competition to lower costs. and better share the costs that remain among those who will only save less by paying more taxes.

       @jeremiah @wjmaggos yea muh roads and everything, i get there are arguments for having *some* government services, but the reason the USA became so propserous was because of restraints on government power.  keep that in mind.  it wasn't because we allowed government to take over aspects of private life where there's no explicit power granted to them.  so i would definitely rather form our own local or neighboorhood community fire departments if it meant we could do away with the rest of the bloat and corruption

       @jeremiah @wjmaggos wrt modern medicine, i'm at the point now where i would burn it all down. completely remove government from health care. abolish medicaid, medicare, government licensing of doctors, hospital accreditation,  any forms of subsidies, funding of research, abolish the FDA, CDC, NIH, and the rest, get them out of the insurance business. charity should be voluntary.  with all the money we'd save by doing that, doctors and hospitals could afford to do more charity work for the poor.
