i think he's in pretty good shape now though after some updates. i reconfigured his firewall like i did with my other servers that i hardened recently to clamp down on malicious traffic

first hydraulic hose is done. i also cut apart a sacrificial test ferrule to ensure i was getting a secure crimp without damaging the reinforcing wire in the hose. i think this should work fine

since both the ferrules and the crimp tool i'm using are cheap china import stuff with no real specs or documentation a test was needed. generally they have a spec where you just crimp to a specified OD measurement but that's not how the chinese roll

so with this crimper i'm just going to 5000 psi on the gauge on the tool and that gives a decent crimp. and also a decent workout. 100 pumps on that hand pump per crimp is no joke

i suppose if i was smart i would hook up my hydraulic pump to the crimper tool and run it off that but i don't feel like messing with it

i don't love guesswork when it comes to holding 5000 psi. hydraulic injection injuries don't sound too nice and neither does being whipped with a metal hose ferrule

or i suppose the ferrule would most likely stay attached and you'd get whipped just with the hose if it came loose, but that wouldn't be great either.

injection injury is probably the most serious risk with hoses failing. a jet of high pressure hydraluic fluid can be injected into your body. i will definitely be keeping my distance on the first pressure test of this system

2nd hydraulic hose complete. the crimping is kinda touchy. if you don't set the ferrule far enough back in the dies it ends up crimping the nut on the end and deforming it, messing up the fit of the nut. i had to chase the thread on a few of them with a tap, before i realized this, which is bad, cause tapping makes metal shavings. so i then had to take a long time cleaning the fittings. one tiny metal shaving or speck of abrasive grit will cause a leak in the hydraulic systemi really should add an oil filter in this system as well for this reason. i also want an accumulator. for now though it's just gona be the pump and valve body.
