Yesterday I had the incredible opportunity of giving a presentation for the service numérique of the French Ministry of Culture, as part of their experiment with the Mastodon instance @cercle My talk: "The Fediverse: the original promise of the internet"It was super inspiring to listen to all the talks of the participants, from the @palaisdetokyo to @LeMuseum. And the results of the poll by @imacrea were fascinating! I will write more soon. For now: THANK YOU for having me there ❤️

@clock that’s really odd. I use Mastodon daily (since 2022) and this has never happened to me. Are you self-hosting it?

@_elena No I am not self-hosting it. How can people participate in Mastodon when it works only for some (you) and not others (me)?Will people be divided into a next level of digital divide, those for who Mastodon frivolously decided to work and those for who Mastodon frivolously decided to not work?I've been using free and open source software exclusively for 29 years and co-authored some programs (Links browser) and my experience is exactly like this, that it's unreliable and when I report bugs, I get verbally abused instead of the bug being fixed, so I stopped reporting bugs decades ago.#selfhosting #mastodon #unreliable #digitaldivide #frivolous

@clock Heya Clock,The solution to the PITA rate limiting is to close tabs.It seems to work OK if I keep it down to about four tabs on any one instance, usually main feed, notifications and a couple of others I'm considering.It gets ugly at around ten tabs.@_elena

@zl2tod @_elena Thank you much for very useful tip!I had many tabs indeed because I need them to keep a list of people from my "Notifications" who followed me to examine their profiles whether I want to follow back. Why doesn't the error message say "Mastodon doesn't support tabs, close tabs"?And why does the message deliberately prevent typing?This way I don't know what to do to get rid of the message.Also, how am I supposed to keep a list of people from my Notifications who followed me to examine their profiles whether I want to follow back?Just hovering over each of them takes about 10 seconds to display whether they follow me or not, which is a huge waste of time.Have Mastodon authors actually tried to use Mastodon?I guess not.Did Mastodon do UX testing?#ux #mastodon #PITA #tabs #tabbedbrowsing #list #people #notifications #following #follower #followers #uxtesting #errormessage #badux
