       Werner Herzog is responsible for the sole successful creation in the Disney Star Wars era.The original plan was to replace puppet Baby Yoda with a CG version, the puppet intended solely as a placeholder.Herzog had such immense contempt for the notion that they tried doing it with the puppet alone, and the rest is history.

       @judgedread I can picture what he might have said in my head. "This small green puppet. Olden, yet taking on the form of a baby. It is utterly grotesque in its form, and that is what makes it so essential. In a vast galaxy of endless collapse and depression man struggles to defend this aberration. I find no pleasure in this thing."
