How is pressuring women to be rail thin with flat bellies compatible with trying to pressure them to have babies? In the church culture I was in, yes, thin women were in some ways celebrated & extra special, but they couldn't really denigrate women with squishy bodies too much when they were trying to convince them they need to have 5-10 babies. How is heroin chic compatible with "oh no, the birth rates"?

The contradictions we are expected to inhabit are getting so massive.Thinness is being pushed harder than ever at the same moment that they are trying to pressure women into repeatedly doing something that will leave their body irrevocably changed in ways they cannot control. And we're all supposed to just stomach this? Carry all the pressure to do literally incompatible things? Nah, come on! We're not doing this bullshit.

Femininity under patriarchy is a perpetual contradiction. It is the demand for someone to be all things at once: perfectly maternal, perfectly sexual, & perfectly productive.

I don't really see though how the current strategy of yelling at women about all the many contradictory things you want from them is supposed to create the conditions where women would try to *be* all of those things. It has to at least feel possible in some way. It has to have some surface appearance of logic, & it has to have some appeal. When we are straight up told by men "be an impossible contradiction entirely for my benefit & your loss," are we expected to choose that?

Oh, there's that tricky word: "choose".The desired future that all these birthrate woe-mongers want is based on removing choice, because they have decided to stop offering incentives. There is no incentive for women to be submissive baby machines when being a submissive baby machine doesn't even buy you safety or respect. Real life trad wives, the ones that are actually living that way, NOT for money, get treated like shit by the men around them. Where is the incentive?

When I was raised in "Christian patriarchy", the sales pitch was that men will protect & cherish you, but right now it feels like they are trying to sell the trad life WITHOUT the promise of the protection & affection of men. The "trad" men are all out there telling everyone they can how much they hate *all* women & that they want to get married so that they can abuse & control a woman with impunity. It's a really bad sales pitch.

It's weird to be a woman. It's weird to live in the middle of the contradictory demands of patriarchal femininity. It's weird to have people tell you to your face that they hate you & then get mad that you want nothing to do with them, as though they really thought they could say "I hate you" & then have you go home with them to cook, clean, manage their social & emotional life, sexually service them, & give birth to their children (& raise them without any help).

Until they have taken away women's rights, they have nothing to offer women, because the bargain has always been that instead of rights we have privileges that must be earned through being a "good" woman. So the thing about this is...they have a pitch to MEN to get MEN on board with all of this, but nothing is being offered to women because the only thing patriarchy has *ever* "offered" to women is that if we are extra good, we may sometimes be treated with some humanity.

It's hard to incentivize women to want this when the "incentives" are just severely curtailed versions of the rights we enjoy right now because we fought to not have them denied to us.

Being a woman right now feels like having people scream absolutely horrible things in your face & then pout & complain that you don't appreciate them. It's being a target for hatred from people who expect in return that you will coddle their fragile male egos. These men don't realize we are human. That's pretty clear because they don't think in terms of "what would incentivize a person to go along with what I want?"

And have they backed off on their ridiculous demands just because it isn't working for them? No! They are literally out there calling every woman with a belly pooch disgusting while complaining that women won't have their babies. These contradictions can function when you have women trapped & under control. Without having the control, however, it's all very counterproductive.

The biggest mistake of the online "manosphere" was to host the conversations men only have with other men where anyone could stumble across them.I know now that many of the men in my former community were having these conversations, but I never saw it because they only happen when women aren't around. But then these dickweeds decided to start posting it all online for us ALL to observe how certain men speak about women when it's "just the guys".

I was 20 years old, newly aware of the dangers of patriarchal control & violence, researching online, reading the Red Pill subreddit & learning for the first time what many of the men in my life thought of me.I didn't know before then. It was hidden from me. Honestly, I didn't know they didn't respect me as a human being, but I learned. The fact that we can now see what men say to each other, the fact that they openly now say these things to the whole world, changes a lot.

I once saw a pastor friend of my parents share a link to a website full of abusive manosphere garbage & rape apologia, & when I pointed that out in a comment, I think he deleted the post, but didn't say a word about it.But until I commented to say "you know that website justifies & excuses rape, right?" he—a Christian pastor—just thought he could share that shit & no one would bat an eye.

That was a very small incident that I haven't thought about in a while, but it was very important, because it showed me that there were trusted men in my community who shared the appalling misogynistic attitudes of some of the nastiest people online.I didn't know that. I believed them when they said they were our protectors & that they deeply respected & honored us, but fortunately for me, the manosphere cleared that right up.
