Why isn't drinking water more intrinsically enjoyable?I'm literally dehydrated but I have to kind of force myself to drink water. Is it because "in the wild" drinking water is often a big risk? Is it because fruit juice is just too delicious and kind of breaks our brains. Anyway it does get easier. But, if I don't force myself to drink water I will get a headache from dehydration which seems like a bad design choice IMO.

@futurebird i have heard a theory that the Drink More Water dogma is somewhat flawed in that a) we also need electrolytes and drinking lots of water flushes those out; b) we do get water from food and if you're eating foods with high water content you probably don't need to follow the "8 glasses a day" rule. my just-so-story guess is we probably evolved with foods that were higher water content & didn't need the instinct to drink plain water so much

Shouldn't your kidneys manage how much electrolytes are kept/flushed?CC: @futurebird@sauropods.win @chrisamaphone@hci.social

@brettm @chrisamaphone @futurebird You can actually get water intoxicated by intentionally flushing your electrolytes. Drunks in forced rehab figure it out.

@Uair@autistics.life @chrisamaphone@hci.social @futurebird@sauropods.win i think that may be because an alcoholic's kidney function has already been considerably damaged, different for a normal healthy person. the kidneys in a healthy person recycle the electrolytes back into the bloodstream, and excess water is sent to the bladder to be urinated out.
