       Today I let my cats get fresh air in the yard and nibble on grass while I took the trash out. It's becoming a regular thing! ​:ablobwobroll:​

       @echo@shitposter.world weeeell, no and sort of yes ​:blobcatanimeeyes:​ I trust them enough not to bolt outright, and they can frolick in the yard which is mostly enclosed; no way for them to get under the house or jump the fence. They do get a bit too curious and sniff around the shed my folks had built which has some gaps they can crawl under. Ill get that blocked off eventually ​:blobcatbeer:​ I'm always glancing at them, and keeping them within sight! I like to foster a sort of fake "freedom and independence" in them. ​:nkogiggle:​ they tend to be good on running inside if something scary happens in the wider area, like cars in the parking lot and people about. And they come to me when i call! Usually ​:shyduck:​

       @echo@shitposter.world once, awhile ago during a Summer where our plants and weeds had grown way too thick, one of my cats crawled under our home to the other side and got "trapped" and "lost" among the thick plants. I got worried, but then I spotted her crying for me to find her; she couldnt find her way out of the spot she explored into ​:blobfoxmeltsob:​ She stayed put and waited until I got around to her and picked her up! So while this one cat i got is very adventurous and curious, I do believe she has an understanding that the home and I are trusting and safe places that she doesnt want to stray too far. It took some time to get here tho. ​:blobcataww2:​ I wouldnt recommend letting any cat have too much freedom, but after awhile you get the general feel how the cats react and whether they need a leash, or heavily monitored time outside, or are too rambunctious to let outside at all! I'm fortunate I have access to a yard that is mostly completely enclosed so that I was able to test them.
