       @gavi I mean, yes, but also this is a phenomenon of language and how it evolves that has been observed for a long time with all kinds of wordsI'm a bit torn about it because it hasn't been used to refer to anything medical for some time now, neither do the majority use it to actually mean any harm. Kind of like the origin behind words like "idiot" which can still be hurtful but are far removed from their origins by this point.

       @alexia@shrimp.starlightnet.work @gavi@bagel.ing as someone with learning disabilities who has been called the r word. no. it's not "okay" just because they don't mean any harm (citation needed). it's not at all removed from its origins. kids saying it clearly mean it against folks with autism, learning disabilities, and intellectual disabilities. hard no.
