       Hello birders of the fediverse (or bird appreciators, or however you identify), I'd love to hear what your most common "backyard" (balcony, park down the block, etc.) birds are right now? This season, this week or day. What birds are you seeing and hearing, and where, broadly, so you live?

       @idzieHere in the SoCal lower desert (Sonoran) we normally have sparrows, house finches, doves, hummingbirds. Crows stay higher up or outside of town. Occasional quails, ducks, & roadrunners. And this guy hangs out near my home:

       Today I ate breakfast on my deck, serenaded by American robins, a distant song sparrow, and the ever-present (and very loud outside my bedroom window) northern cardinals. A gray catbird lurked in the apple tree, making their strange catbird sounds, a black-capped chickadee stopped by briefly, and American goldfinches sung from the neighbour's yard, while house sparrows yipped from a different neighbour's direction. Common grackles whizzed by carrying food to a nearby nest, European starlings landed on nearby rooftops, and further off I heard red-winged blackbirds calling. The only regulars missing, I'd say, were the American crows (often, as of late, being chased by blackbirds, as they're notorious nest thieves), and the great blue herons (I live not far from the water, and I see one flying by most days).I live in southern Quebec, Canada.

       Some other birds that I might not see/here *daily* from my house, but are around often as of late: chipping sparrows, downy and hairy woodpeckers, turkey vultures, common ravens, mourning doves.
