       I think I need to set a rule with free and open source software: if it's being evangelised and pushed, especially in a smug, condescending or otherwise generally circle-jerky sorta way, seek alternatives. It always seems like in the FOSS community, the jankiest shit gets evangelised while the stuff that's working or otherwise pragmatic gets left behind.

       I remember when there was drama between Euro Office and OnlyOffice, there was this weird circlejerk of people who felt the need to say they use LibreOffice.Meanwhile, atm OnlyOffice is the one that is working better for me. It's mostly snappier, and it tries to stay close to MS Office as possible, meaning I don't have to deal with weird jank surrounding things like conditional formatting...

       @Flaky That's pretty much what I do. If the only way I hear about some software is because it's being evangelized (like PGP or hyprland), it's most likely bad. I look at the communities & it's dipshits who don't know basic Internet safety or who are transphobic or some other bad thing & have no idea what they're talking about. If I see that a significant portion of its users are normal people, it's probably perfectly fine.

       @Flaky No normal person uses suckless software because it's shit, so all you hear of it is script kiddies & elitists evangelizing it. Normal people use LibreOffice, so sometimes you hear "It's a little buggy but I don't have to pay a subscription for it & it's easy to fill out bug reports👍 4/5 stars" & sometimes you hear "I converted to the Church of LibreOffice Impress", & then you try it & it's 4/5 stars just like the normal person said.

       @jackemled Hyprland is... alright, I guess? According to f4mi's research during the Framework debacle, they've sorted out the moderation issues but they did ask if that actually wasn't the case at the time. In any case, I much prefer Niri's stability even if features don't come as quick.Though... PGP? The cert signing tool? That's, absolutely weird to evangelise.

       @Flaky The hyprland developer themself is a software elitist & transphobic. It's gross. Also people evangelize PGP so much despite it being the worst tool for the job that it's difficult to find better tools even though they exist.
