@intrax I can see a case for that (really, a number of factors); I'm for now focused on the OBBB and if Massie's vote against it was prescient WRT to "mass deportation."The raw numbers of deportations are way down as of late (reporting is weird due to the "shutdown" I think, the latest we've got like early February to early April numbers, per Brave AI ~1,300/day. And putting an Oklahoman GOPe type in charge of ICE is a very bad sign.On the other hand, the OBBB set a lot of things in motion that take time to play out, especially with Lower Court Superiority Massive Resistance. More than doubling the number of front line ICE officers ... but only half a thousand could be put right into the line, retired types, the rest need lots of training.Ditto detention center beds, which is where the bulk of the money was directed, some forty billion. That's still very much in progress, with losses like "Alligator Alcatraz" (rumored to happen soon).Politically ... hard to say. Emphasis added because one number supplied is hardly the only self-deportation path and can't be directly compared to other previous estimates. On the note of deportations, these numbers are always hard to interpret. As with anything, the numbers can be cooked (remember Obama being "deporter-in-chief" because he reclassified denied entries as deportations). It will ultimately be a vibe check for most people as to the success of border security. Seeing more ICE agents in daily life, having the wall be complete, watching a viral video of a gang member chimping out as he gets deported.Personally, I am excited to see if the fruits of the OBBB and the months of judicial correctionđź’˘ can deliver what the NYTimes is reporting.
