I think it's neither fair nor ethical that we just exist without improving the world in a world where "no ethical consumption under capitalism" holds true. We may do harm reduction by e.g. being vegan, n harm reduction's a good thing, but it's not harm removal. So in lieu of not existing anymore, I think we should try improving the world enough for everyone (whether human or non-human creature) that we can "offset" the harm we cause by consuming.Problem: We don't know how. How do we get started on activism n trying to enact systemic change? "Go to protests" seems like the most obvious answer but the pointa protests is to be loud n we're very noise-sensitive so we've avoided those so far. So what else can we do? Are there groups/orgs we could join? Actions we can take? Does joining a party (Tierschutzpartei or Die Linke maybe, for anyone familiar w German politics) make any sense or is working from within the "liberal democracy" system bound to fail? N what do we give our money to (we're by no means rich n so far we've been giving somea our money thru GWWC in hopes that they'll pick the correct charities for us but Idk'f there's better option, in the end it's not like we even have like a hundred to spare every month currently so the impact we can do that route's certainly limited but well money n time are the two resources we have, we also do give cash to homeless people on the street or in public transit when we have any on us)?

@tanith first of all, take care of yourselves as a priority. Can't help others if you need help yourselves, can't give money if you're poor yourselves.I think there's many ways to improve life, and you can do multiple of them.First of all, if you have a job, you can join a union (join a good union if possible, but if you're in a bad one you'll find out when you need them and they don't help you at which point you can see what unions are willing to help)You can be a militant for a political party, which afaik usually entails going door knocking and calling people on the phone, idk if you're comfortable with that.If you join a union you can get access to courses which can get you trained to help in the workspace. One thing to be careful: there's drama in every org. You can't avoid it. I've seen awful people and it can be very stressful / unmotivating. Overall, if you can avoid dumb drama (people who hate each other), and call out the actual toxic behaviors (harassment, embezzlement...), I think it's fine, but I haven't been able to do that yet :bunCry: Political party is on a country/international scale. Unions are around country/company scale (depending on actions). For local scale you usually find anarchist groups and such, but afaik it's usually related to protests and sometimes local electionsYou can also join an animal refuge or a homeless shelter or such orgs, it is harm reduction but it's the most direct way to help (politics is more insidious, you're a cog in the machine to try influence 10, 100 years in the future. Except unions which actually do work everyday for workers rights)I think ideally, you take a list of all orgs that you want to join, you see how many spoons you have for such activities, and you go ask them if there's any way you can help. And if they say that they need help for protests and such things that you cannot do, then you look for another org. You need to make sure to prioritize yourselves though, it's easy to burn out, or to get pressured by others. Be assertive and state your limits :neocat_hug_bun_heart:

@bunni Thx <3 Idk, if we end up improving things ten or hundred years in the future that would already be great? We currently don't have a job (haven't even finished uni yet nor any other basic education) n Idk'f there are unions for psychologists especially in the fields we'd wanna work at (not companies). We're quite comfy doing phone calls or going door to door fwiw (at least as long as we got some sorta script to start things off w), we've done a lotta phone calls w strangers for internships. So Ig doing work for a party could be an option then? Not sure bout how well we'd do at animal shelters, a lotta pets're obligate carnivores n that makes us a bit uncomfy handling their food, n we also don't do well w dirty environments n such so dunno. We also wouldn't know how to find local anarchist/antifa groups tbh.

@bunni Wrt becoming psychogists, I mean it's also a career we're pursuing cause we wanna make things better for others but maybe there's a more effective way to do that n it shouldn't be too late for us to change career paths currently in case we realize there's sth better we could be doing. N yes we're quite aware we have limits, we know there's only so much work we can do a day (6h or so) before we get too tired to do more meaningful work n well'f whatever we end up doing for a living's not enough to improve the world to a satisfying amount we'll have to do volunteer work too n then we'll have to figure out how to keep our overall workload small enough.Sorry I think that post's quite rambly, I hope my meaning got thru.

@tanith sounds good :bunHeart: For the 10 years thing, I mostly meant that you will mostly not see any results at all and it's hard mentally when it sometimes feels like a waste - even more so if you're in a toxic/bad environment like I was (I left that place and now I'm taking a break but I'll join another one for sure. I hope I was just in a bad org and it's better in others)I'm not sure how unions work entirely, but you can always ask if there's unions at your (future?) workplace. Even if not joining a company, I think unions are almost always needed (even for public sector or non profits or anything. As long as it's a big enough place ofc). For anarchist groups, they're easy to spot at protests, they're loud eheh. I think if you look online at protests in your area, who organizes them / who participates in them, you'll mostly find unions and anarchistsAntifa I'm not sure since it's not an org, but likewise I think if you search "antifa <insert city name>" online you should find webpages or facebook groups or somethingGood luck :bunHeart: I'm sorry I noticed late that I used a wrong word in my last post and edited it too late >~>
