"We have a Presidential system not a Parliamentary system, that matters. The scale of the country matters. The role of money in politics, what it take to get in the game is so enormous here ... there is no parallel in the UK. That's a barrier to change. And so there's a huge amount of power and money locked up in these two parties, and it's really hard for a new party to get a foothold given those multiple factors."#LeslieVinjamuri, 19 May, 2026https://disordershow.com/(1/2)#USPolitics

@strypey that's somewhat intentional by this point. washington didn't want parties by design and people backwhen warned him that while the USA doesn't have them, it didn't do anything to systemically discourage them, so the partyless design lasted all of 3 minutes in to pushing to prod.

What Vinjamuri is essentially pointing to here is that the US isn't a democracy. If every political decision, down to who can win office, is determined by who can spend the most money, rather than who has the most popular support, that's a plutocracy, not a democracy.Lawrence Lessig pointed this out about a decade ago, in his talks about the Larry primary and campaigns for constitutional reform;https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuJ3NmInF6w(2/2)
