       I’ve rewatched it today for maybe the 5th time. I don’t remember my opinions on it over the years, but I feel like they’ve changed a lot. I don’t think young me, fresh out of not understanding much of Final Fantasy VII and whatever edgy anime was playing back then, actually liked The Spirits Within (though he’d probably also have hated a lot of things we like today).But the me today (still under construction) absolutely *loves* the fact that the entire plot is basically a search for a non-violent* way to solve the conflict. She also loves that the protagonist is a (mostly) non-sexualized woman who’s actually a character, not just a token to be saved. Everyone else is interesting enough for the movie to move along at a nice pace.The visuals hold up pretty well, though I don’t care for much of its soundtrack, dunno why. Maybe in a few rewatches this’ll be fixed as well.Fuck, even the villain almost shooting himself, then doubling down of firing Zeus is an amazing sequence.* Well, the neutralizing wave could be read as killing all the alien ghosts, but the final sequences could also be read as them joining the planet’s Gaia. I’m choosing the second.
