       Looking for audiobook recs as I think I might finally become one of those ppl who listens to them whilst crafting (in part due to the new setup of my sewing room, anyways...)* no smut* no rape/sexual assault* romance only as a side/sub plot, not the primary plotThese days I'm big into sci fi and mysteries. Fantasy is great too but it's gotten so much harder to find non-smut/romance fantasy.Specifically want audiobooks, not every great book makes a good audiobook imho#Bookstodon

       @MsHearthWitch @akamran I was going to suggest Doctor Who as well. Big Finish is the studio that produces the audiodramas, and they often bring back the actors that played the doctors and companions to act in them. Really suggest those. Big Finish actually has a lot of other sci-fi audio drama series too, so worth checking out their other ones if Doctor Who isn’t necessarily your favorite.I’m not sure how well they translate to audio format, but Ursula LeGuin’s books like Left Hand of Darkness and Dispossessed seem to me like they would do well in the format.

       @JoscelynTransient I wanted to read the Hainish Cycle because I loooove the Earthsea books and wanted more of her writing. But in checking the warnings for the series there is sexual assault, rape, gendered violence, and also pregnancy and miscarriage... so I think it's probably not a series for me :(

       @MsHearthWitch hmmm…well, a positive about the series is that it’s not a linear series, more like stories on different planets in the same universe. The Dispossessed doesn’t have any of that that I can think of, so that might be a safe one. Most of the story has to do with competing political ideologies and ways of society.The Left Hand of Darkness…there’s no sexual assault or pregnancy and miscarriage depicted, but there is some allegorical gendered violence. There is also an almost anthropological description of sex in one scene among humans who don’t have a stable sex or gender, and some discussion of sexuality in a similar term. None of it is smut or anything like that. So…I guess there’s the content warnings to decide if that one works for you at all.I can’t speak for the others since I haven’t read them yet (I need to get back to those some day!). Hope that helps for deciding if they’re worth trying

       @JoscelynTransient Ahh thank you for that! I might spend a bit of time digging into the details of the warnings then. I know sometimes context can make them a lot different than expected. But some are still hard no for me.It's good to know that the series isn't linear! Cuz there are some books in the series (inc I think the two you mentioned) that did not have any of the flags for stuff I won't read.Appreciate you taking the time to give me more info on them!

My memory isn't the greatest, but I don't remember there being anything in there that would fit under the terms you listed. I hope you'll be able to read/listen to it!
