       given that this is "just" anecdata - but I've seen firsthand, and heard so many stories of, trans women and transfems ending up on the wrong end of abusive relationships, both pre- and post-transition. far more than cis women, and quite a bit more than non-transfem queers. I've also seen how prone to fawning we are. how we're socialized to give and give and give of ourselves until we're burnt out, at which point we're promptly discarded. how we're socialized to never stick up for or advocate for ourselves or each other. how we're in the midst of a literal genocide and we're still sitting here, by and large, thinking about how allegedly privileged we are. I haven't entirely thought through the mechanisms underlying this phenomenon - not yet, anyway - but there has to be something, some sort of oppressive force, that causes us to be this way long before we transition.

Her life depends on the projection of your fantasies, her experience is secondary to the narrative you wrote for her. She's the bitch you knew in high school, she's your father, she's the ex lover you can't get over. She's your sex toy, you liberate yourself through her. She's so brave, she's what you want to be. You want to wear her skin. She's a mirror that you shatter when the image you look back on is unsatisfactory. She's the first to go when sacrifice is necessary. A trans woman is only useful as long as she can make you feel good about yourself. Your whims dictate her reality. She's a character first and a person second.
