okay, since the oomfs are posting about crushes, I figured I'd share my most embarrassing crush story. back in early 2021, I started to become pretty close with this girl Callie. I met Callie through an unusual sequence of events involving a visit to Pittsburgh in the late 2010s, her and her then-boyfriend popping into a friend hangout, and our finding out that we were survivors of the same abuser (the woman whom I dated before my ex-wife). we exchanged numbers and spent the next few years occasionally checking in on one another, and she was one of the first people I came out to in 2019. around the beginning of 2021, a couple months after my ex asked me for a divorce, Callie and I started chatting more often. soon, we were texting each other a ton every day, and a few months after that we were doing irregular voice chats. oh, I should also add that she was, like, incredibly attractive - at least to my eyes - and this was a time when I still believed that most people were "out of my league." so of course the idea that she could be attracted to me approached zero in my head. on one of those chats, we were playing Mario Kart and casually talking in between rounds. she was telling me about this friend of hers, also named Rachel, whom she really admired. then she said, verbatim: "yeah, it's weird, I tend to have crushes on all the Rachels I know."and I know what you're thinking chat. "this is a very obvious statement that means 'I'm crushing on you Rachel.' please tell me you said something." nope. wrong. I didn't. and then I spent the next couple of days wondering if it meant anything because I was too fearful of asking her and having it thrown back in my face. Day 3 after the all-but-confession, she gave me an actual, explicit confession, to the surprise of absolutely nobody hearing this story except for me at the time. and that, my dear queers, is the depth of the pit of useless lesbianism that Your Girlthing is trying to claw herself out of. I'm better at recognizing it today, but "better" still means I'm fucking oblivious most of the time lol

I'm reflecting more on these songs today, and another thing that occurred to me is that this is the most explicitly political I've ever been, music-wise.hints of my radical politics have always inevitably seeped into past albums - for example, the ghost fetish has a very loose theme of anxiety around climate catastrophe. but on ATWWF, several songs center around topics like transfeminine liberation, fascism, and rebuilding from a devastated world. I'm still trying to decide where to take things next. my head says to lean even more into those topics. my heart says that I need to make some decompression music - maybe that high-BPM EP geared toward ADHD folks that I've had on my brain for ages. only time will tell, I guess. today is the first day of the next phase of my music work. where that takes me is still very much up in the air - but I am itching to get started, and that can't be a bad sign. :blobfox3c:

someone on a discord server I'm active on asked about what the repeating line at the end of "victoria" means, and I figured I'd post my response here as well, because it's low-key one of the most fucked up things I've ever put in a song:the concept behind that coda is that the girl in the song, Victoria, has just been stabbed by a sleep paralysis demon who may or may not also be her father. she's staring up at her bedroom ceiling, her life slowly leaving her. and she's so desperate for any sort of comfort that she envisions the ceiling as a god or protector figure, keeping her company in her last moments

when cis people fearmonger about puberty blockers for trans kids, remember that puberty blockers are the compromise.the non-compromise position is that trans kids should be able to go through the right puberty, from roughly the same age as cis kids.

we've been playing the "but are you really really sure?" game with trans kids via puberty blockers because that was a compromise that at least allowed them to not have to go through the wrong puberty. but clearly, with the backlash against blockers, making sure trans kids are really really super sure was never the intent. the intent was to make sure that trans kids don't get to transition. so we might as well just skip right to letting them transition, at the age that allows them to have an experience akin to their cis peers.
