       @antsu i'm sure i don't understand the problem domain properly. but the whole shitpost ends up being likefacebook's haystacks -> bump allocators actually work really well at gigascale. you just let the old memory die in place and the index holds the liveness. this seems wasteful until you have snapshots (btrfs, zfs) where actually old data isn't always wiped on delete anywaytreating the underlying disk as a bag of haystacks is basically what shenandoah does for java; fill up a bucket with bumps until its full and then mark it dead. sometimes you go back and evacuate them (which is also what facebook and seaweed do, and postgres and others, they just scan the liveness records for what to copy over to new pages.)updating indexes is already kinda understood through things like hitchhiker trees and path copying.i think most of the fuckery with a FS is probably that none of your operations are genuinely atomic by default and programmers tend to assume they are
