@stux Yeah, I also did this wrong all my life!This is the main reason I decided not to join anymore a few years ago, mainly because of the genocide by the Israëli government that the Dutch government has been supporting. It felt like hypocrisy.Turns out, hardly any Dutch casualties, so we can just keep on remembering the genocide from 80y ago, saying Never Again while the present day genocide continues! Great! /S

(Not a public holiday)The liberation day (public holiday)used to be celebrated on May 9th, because of the heavy USSR influenceEven on May 9th 1945 there were fights going on in Czechoslovakia May 8th is now officially a public holiday for the Liberation day

@paveljanicek Aah! About the same here, fighting did not end in the whole country since many Nazi soldiers didn’t get the orders So a part was liberated but other parts weren’t

@stux on one side, I read the friction regarding who gets remembered. I understand that.On the other side, I don't see the Dutch picking fights with their neighbors and those across the world who wear different religious garb...So maybe the holiday served a good purpose before the world was as connected as it is now. Because the Dutch remember what it cost them.I dunno. A passing 2 cents. I think it should adapt to the present and future. It seems like that is underway.
