I have a pair of end-of-life phones (CAT S61 and S62) with FLIR Lepton thermal cores in them.Anybody know if there is a good way to disassemble them to salvage the thermal modules without destroying them? I don't care about the rest of the phone, it's gonna end up in ewaste.

@MrDOS Both are in pretty sorry shape physically after years of hard use so not worth the effort, especially the S61 whose rubber bumpers are starting to get sticky from plasticizer degeneration.But the thermal cores are still fine.

@azonenberg There is a disassembly guide for the S62 on iFixit.https://www.ifixit.com/Device/CAT_S62But not for the S61. But that should give at least some idea on how to approach the other phone as well.

@ftg The S62 has the nicer thermal core anyway, iirc 160 x 120 vs the S61 is 80 x 60. So that's the one i was more interested in.

@azonenberg I'm still rocking my trusty S61.On that note: What would be a mostly equivalent replacement? Thermal camera is a must, but I also like its air monitoring capabilities (VOCs, humidity).

@azonenberg *lé sigh*I'm actually thinking of buying a Fairphone and modding it into a custom case milled from 7000 series aluminium designed to IP68 specs. And while doing so try to figure out how connect a thermal camera to it. Air quality monitor should be doable, they can be obtained with a I²C and there's always some I²C available somewhere.

@azonenberg yeah… I always wondered how the Cat-S61 did it. Or didn't it and the AQS would break if submerged in water?

@datenwolf it claimed submersible and i certainly got it pretty wet over the years. Pretty sure it's been submerged at least once.

@azonenberg same here, and the AQS seems to remain functional. At least it keep screaming at me bloody murder each time I'm dousing my hands in surgical disinfectant and roll some imaging system into the operating room.

@datenwolf oh you should have seen how pissed it got when i painted the floor of my lab with several gallons of very not-low-VOC ESD epoxy that was something like half alcohols by volume.I think it took a hour or two to return to baseline in uncontaminated air. Not sure if the sensor was saturated or my clothes were offgassing adsorbed solvent vapor or what.During the painting process i had the exhaust fan running and was wearing a 3M 6900 with OV/AG cartridges and didn't smell a thing.When i left the lab and took it off i realized how much the whole house reeked lol. Had to open all the windows and go somewhere for a while to let it ventilate
