Chat is it normal to bring traceable personal standards into work to calibrate their equipment against?

(i asked our lab tech how big a feature was in a microscope photo he sent me and apparently nobody had ever done a pixel size cal on that scope... We have a cheap amscope cal slide of questionable accuracy floating around somewhere but I have a proper traceable reference for my own lab so I told him I'd bring it in next time I was in the city and we'd take care of things)

One of these if anyone is curious, the 20mm scale with UKAS traceable certificate https://www.tedpella.com/histo_html/Pro-Stage-Micrometers.aspx

@azonenberg Your home lab is better than your work's production too?

@FritzAdalis they have a bunch of semiconductor gear better than me I don't have a sem or fib etc.But general EE stuff it's not even close

@azonenberg I bring in my own RF power meter all the time, because that's the one I actually trust. It helps that it's a nice, modern Anritsu unit.

@ftg I'm gonna be buying a r&s nrp18t soon but not for work, for my own lab mostly as a cal standard for other equipment

@azonenberg Type N is good for the lower bands. Nice and robust.I do have both a diode and thermal head for the 'ritsu as well.Diode for sensitivity, thermal for wideband and modulation insensitivity.

@ftg i would prefer sma it's likely getting a n to sma adapter semi permanently installed

@azonenberg A semi-permanent adapter is a good idea anyway, imo. Most of my equipment has something like that when in use.

@ftg I've pretty much standardized on SMA for everything. My VNA and vector sig gen both have N ports that have permanent SMA converters on them. The BMAs on my big lecroy scope are converted to 2.92 or SMA any time I don't have an active probe on them. The BERT has 3 channels of untouched 2.92 on it, but the one channel I use most often for slightly slower work has a 2.92 to SMA adapter on it. At some point I might put a 2.92 connector saver on another channel

@azonenberg I was thinking in the connector saver and N being more mechanically robust when a faulty SMA with a protruding pin gets screwed into the adapter. But knowing you those DUT's and cables get gaged anyway.

@ftg yeah i gage all of my SMAs. And either do finger tight for quick and dirty work or torque them to spec for anything that's going to be left assembled for a long time or where I want the best performance

@ftg I don't have a connector gauge for N or 2.92 yet though only SMA

@azonenberg Dazz1 o nthe EEVblog forums is working on a diy gage for type N's apparently.https://www.eevblog.com/forum/repair/wiltron-6409-rf-scaler-network-analyser-480015/msg6241217/#msg6241217Here's a video showing him using his gage system.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-BSFsCUibk
