       Anti-AI technologists only: If and when the AI bubble finally collapses due to financial strain, and LLMs become synonymous with several open-source, open-weight, ethically trained models that run on your modest local hardware, would you use it? This is a world without OpenAI, Anthropic, and those massive AI data centres. Maybe some smaller shops spin up no-code wrapper tools, but nothing like the surveillance capital shit we have today.Basically, if the ethics, ecology, and extractive capitalism bits go away, would you consider working with these tools?#poll

       I can see how some of the ethical imperatives to avoid this sort of tech could be alleviated after the bubble bursts.  like, if it's all free software, running under our own control, the potential for enshittification becomes negligible; the motivation to destroy work posts might still be there for many users even if my own are different, so that wouldn't be an obstacle for me.  but even if they run on typical personal computers in freedom, they'd still be brute-forcing searches for answers, and that's forever far less efficient than a custom algorithm in terms of use of computing resources, so the ecological footprint is harder to dismiss.
