       Advice please.There's a criticism that a prohibition on AI use in Inkscape would inhibit a new contributor's understanding of such a large codebase.There is no moral model I know of.But I am sympathetic to anyone to wants to understand a codebase as large and byzantine as ours and uses tools they feel help them overcome what would otherwise be an insurmountable amount of complexity.Is there a policy which would accommodate assistive, investigative modes without permitting authoring?

       @doctormo i think a policy here might be to ban genai outputs from being added to codebase (and assets, docs, writing, artwork, promotional material, etc. to be holistic) specifically, but not to say anything about the rest

       @doctormo i'm also a bit sympathetic when it comes to using it as an assistive technology for autocompletions, but my feelings there are mixed, because i feel that assistive use cases of genai are more so an accident than the point, and if we invested all that money that got burned into genai into proper assistive tech, we would have much better tech and have it in an ethical and sustainable waysadly, this is not the situation we are in right now

       @doctormo two ideas:- make sure the codebase works with LSP/clangd out of the box so it can be explored in your favorite LSP powered editor. i doubt that using an LLM as a proxy for actually understanding the code will stick in the mind of the learner. LSP, jump to definition and documented functions makes navigating a code base much easier though (less friction).- write a good "navigating the codebase" doc. publish architecture diagrams. write walkthrough/recipe for how to contribute a fix.
