       when it comes to platforms, in my opinion, the most important thing to look at is the power gradient between the users and the provider(s)this power gradient can be influenced by many factors, some factors will dominate everything else, such as the software being proprietary or there only being a single provider (said differently, the service is centralized). these immediately make the gradient very steepbut these are not the only factors, the community in a free software project being toxic also makes the gradient steeper, as this makes it harder to participate in the community around a projectanother factor is interoperability: open and interoperable standards tend to make the gradient a lot more shallow, because anyone can choose (or create) any implementation they wantbut even if you have an open, federated standard, if it is difficult to self-host, that makes the gradient slightly steeper againsome other things make the gradient steeper, for example a centralized platform demanding a phone number or id verification, or a free software project not allowing community involvement

       as i (and many others) are writing articles, posts, comments, etc against genai, i think it might be a good idea to come together and share reasons why genai is bad and should be rejectedso, in this thread, i'd like to request that you make your case against it, link sources, etcthis way we can all benefit from each other's effort and researchmaybe we can do this in a more organized way later on

       @zeenix i don't think anyone should just ignore the massive ethical, social, environmental and political issues with genai, these issues are more severe than any quality-related issuesseeing so many people i used to respect fall into this is very disappointing. i really wanted to think they had a backbone, but guess notthere is no ethical or responsible use of genai under capitalism. this tech simply should not exist nor be developed any further. not for art, code, writing or anything else. and we should all stand in solidarity against it

       when you see people post links to threads about banning genai from projects, yes, you definitely should boost it, but also try to interact on the shared thread if you can. register an account if you need it to reply and don't have one alreadyactually interacting in these threads is going to do so much more than a boost on fediwe need to be as loud as we can. make sure your voices are heard. don't let anyone shove it under the rugif we keep everything only in fedi, it's too easy to ignore

       coding is an art formthere is a lot of intent involved in writing code, many small creative decisions that have to be made. this also applies to the design of a larger system, there are many many creative degrees of freedomllms regurgitating it therefore is equally as offensive as it regurgitating writing, or a diffusion model regurgitating arthence, genai must be loudly opposed wherever possible. we must not let it rot our communities even more

       yes, fuck "open source". we don't need "open source"what we need is free software, and we need it in the most holistic way possible. software which goes against all hierarchies: anti-fascist, feminist, anti-racist, lgbtq+ inclusive, anti-capitalist, anti-imperialist, anti-genai, etcyes, this includes source availability under a free software license. of course it does, it's still free softwareand we need it for everyone, not just power users. everyone should be empowered and we should be in solidarity with the whole working class​:neocat_heart:​
